Nancy Birnbaum poses for her winner’s photo with her dog, Buddy, who was by her side all day.

On Tuesday night, Nancy Birnbaum outlasted a field of 107 entries and defeated German Gomez heads-up to win $7,460 plus another $700 in bounties in Event 13 ($400 Black Chip Bounty Pot Limit Omaha).

“It feels great,” said Birnbaum. “It’s been a while since I won a trophy here at the Seminole Hard Rock. It’s my home casino. I love this place.”

Birnbaum started the final table in the middle of the pack, but got off to a rough start to drop down to one of the short stacks. But she didn’t give up.

“I just patiently waited,” said Birnbaum. “I trapped a couple of people, picked my spots, ran well, got lucky, and here I am.”

Birnbaum was very generous with her praise of the tournament staff here at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood.

“Tony Burns runs a great tournament,” said Birnbaum. “And now we’ve got Jason [Heidenthal], who’s awesome. The crew, the staff, the bloggers, everything is awesome here.”

Birnbaum already has plans to play the $3,500 WPT Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open Championship on Saturday, which is Day 1B.

“This was a great experience,” said Birnbaum, “and hopefully we can run this good in the main event. But it’s midnight and I’ve been grinding since 10:00 am, so I’m ready to go home and feed my dog.”
