Joseph Bartholdi

The last weekend of the May Deep Stack Poker Series rolled out the $1,700 Deepest Stack tournament and it had a great turnout of 418 entries. Joseph Bartholdi took the lead late in the tournament and went wire-to-wire at the final table to win the tournament outright for $125,025.

The tournament featured three starting flights and a $300,000 guarantee. Our players combined to more than double that number and create a prize pool worth $627,000.

Day 2 played late into the evening on Sunday night and the final table nine returned on Monday to play for the title. Bartholdi was the lead to start the final table and he had all the chips when it was done.

Bartholdi took home $125,025 and that was good enough for the second biggest cash of his career, the WPT Champions Club member earned $3.4 million for winning the $25K Five Diamond title in 2006.

Congrats to Joseph and thanks to all of our players for a fantastic tournament!

Joseph Bartholdi

Rasam Mohammadian began heads-up play with only eight big blinds but wasn’t ready to just give up the title to Joseph Bartholdi without a fight. He caught a couple double up but Bartholdi kept up the pressure until Mahommadian was back under 10 big blinds.

On the final hand of the tournament, Bartholdi dropped in a stack of 100K chips from the button and Mohammadian called at risk for 750,000.

Bartholdi: AhJc
Mohammadian: 9h8d

Mohammadian was behind but drawing live for another double.

“I’m feeling this one,” Mohammadian said. “Right on the flop.”

Despite his confidence, it was Bartholdi improving on the Jd6c3c flop. His paired jack turned into trip jacks on the Jh turn and Mohammadian was drawing dead to the 6h river.

Mohammadian was very happy with his $87,500 for second place and Bartholdi walked to the cage to collect his $125,025 payout.

Chiappetta flopped top pair but was drawing dead to the top two of Bartholdi for a surprise exit in third place.
