There was a three-way preflop all-in situation at Table 40, and these were their hands in descending order of chip counts:

Richard Rodriguez (middle position):  7s7h
Anthony Askey (middle position):  QxQx
Dinyar Irani (cutoff):  AcJc

The board came Kd5s5h4h7d, and Rodriguez spiked a seven on the river to win the entire pot with a full house, sevens full of fives, eliminating both of his opponents from the tournament.

Rodriguez (seated in seat 9) admitted that he didn’t realize Askey (seated in seat 1) was in the hand, and thought he was just up against Irani, who was all in for about 135,000.

“If I was paying attention,” said Rodriguez, “none of this would have happened.”

But the mistake worked out for Rodriguez, who is now sitting on 710,000 in chips.

Richard Rodriguez  – 710,000  (71 bb)
Anthony Askey  –  Eliminated in 25th Place  ($280)
Dinyar Irani  –  Eliminated in 26th Place  ($280)

With 24 players remaining from a field of 312, the average chip stack is around 260,000 (26 big blinds). The field is in the money, with the remaining players guaranteed at least $325 each.

And for those wondering, yes, Michael Newman is still in the hunt after being down to just one big blind on the Money Bubble. He has survived two pay jumps so far.

The players have returned from break to begin Level 19, with increased blinds of 5,000-10,000 with a 10,000 ante.

A scan of the field turned up four players with at least 360K in chips, creating an unofficial leaderboard:

1.  Pierrot Massenat  –  415,000  (42 bb)
2.  Joseph Ricco  –  380,000  (38 bb)
3.  Joey Gargiulo  –  370,000  (37 bb)
4.  Nabil Matta  –  360,000  (36 bb)

With 27 players remaining from a field of 312, the average chip stack is around 231,000 (23 big blinds). The field is in the money, with the remaining players guaranteed at least $280 each.

Event 25: Michael Newman Survives the Bubble with One Big Blind; Could It Be the Start of a Comeback?

$150 Holiday Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$10,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 18:  4,000/8,000 with an 8,000 ante
Players Remaining:  35 of 312

Michael Newman
Michael Newman dropped in his 7,000 as he moved all in after the Money Bubble burst.

Michael Newman was down to 7,000 when the Money Bubble began, and he would have been forced all in from the big blind on Hand #4.

But as it happened, somebody at another table was eliminated in Hand #1, and Newman survived the Money Bubble to make it into the money.

The first hand after the bubble, Newman got it all in from middle position against two other players, and they checked all the way down on a board of AcQh4cQsKs.

UTG+1:  5h5c  (two pair, queens and fives)
Big Blind:  As6c  (two pair, aces and queens)
Michael Newman:  Ah7d  (two pair, aces and queens)

With the king on the board, neither kicker played, so Newman and the big blind chopped the pot between them.

Michael Newman  –  15,000  (3 bb)

The next hand, the under-the-gun player limped for 6,000, and Newman moved all in from UTG+1 for 15,000. A player in middle position called, as did the UTG player.

The two players checked all the way down on a board of KhQc10d6s9h, and all three players turned over their cards.

UTG:  3d3c  (pair of threes)
Middle Position:  Ad8d  (ace high)
Michael Newman:  JhJd  (pair of jacks)

Newman woke up with a surprisingly strong hand, and his jacks held up for him to win the pot and triple up in chips.

Michael Newman  –  54,000  (9 bb)

A few minutes later, Newman appeared to have doubled up again, as he had more than 100K in chips. He lost a bit of it after that, but when Level 18 began with blinds of 4,000-8,000, he had about 105,000 in his stack.

Michael Newman  –  105,000  (13 bb)

With 35 players remaining from a field of 312, the average chip stack is around 178,000 (22 big blinds). The field is in the money, with the remaining players guaranteed at least $245 each.

But the board came Jd8d8h4d7d, and Askey rivered an ace-high diamond flush to win the pot and eliminate his opponent on the Money Bubble.
