2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Event 18 Champion Jeff Madsen

Event 18 of the 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown was a $600 Pot-Limit Omaha 8 (Single Re-Entry). A field of 103 entries generated a prize pool of $54,075. Emerging victorious was Jeff Madsen, taking it down outright for $16,335.

The four-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner has more than $5.7 million in career live tournament winnings according to the Hendon Mob poker database, so entering the final table with the chip lead, he was the man to beat. Of his four WSOP bracelets, one is a $3,000 PLO8, which he won in 2015, besting a field of 480 for $301,413. His approach to the game differs quite a bit from Hold’em, but it’s his ability to adapt and adjust that makes him successful.

“No antes in this game, so you have time and just have to play pretty solid,” Madsen said afterward. “You can’t just run over the table, because you have to have hands and make hands. People aren’t just going to fold. You still have to wait for your spots.”

Madsen usually only comes to the Seminole Hard Rock for the WPT Championship events, but was excited with the variety that the Showdown schedule offered.

“I usually come here for the WPT event, but I really liked the mixed game schedule. I’ve spent a lot of time specializing in these games and it just made sense to come here, because a lot of poker series don’t have good mixed-game schedules. It’s good warmup for the World Series (of Poker), too, and a break from Vegas to come to the beach.”
