Deep Stack Poker Series Event 5 was a $600 Deepest Stack No-Limit Hold’em tournament with two flights and a $150,000 guarantee. It drew 301 entries for a prize pool worth $156,520 and it was stacked with talented players.

After a tough final table and extra day of play, Michael Newman captured his second Deep Stack Poker Series title for $28,301 in a heads-up deal with TK Miles.

His other trophy? Newman won last year’s $1,700 Deepest Stack tournament which kicked off this morning and we expect him in the field to defend.

Michael Newman chipped up to a small lead against TK Miles and both stacks were deep with 90-minute levels. Staring down a long day and the $1,700 Deepest Stack not getting any younger, Newman and Miles decided to split the remaining prize pool right down the middle.

With the chip lead, Newman picked up two extra dollars and another trophy to his collection.

With the board reading , TK Miles checked, Michael Newman bet 150,000 and Miles called.

The river was , Miles checked, Newman bet 250,000 and Miles check-raised to 1,200,000.

Newman sat back and started talking through what Miles could have.

“I have a set,” Newman said. “I don’t know how I can fold this.”

After another minute, Newman tossed in chips to call.

Miles showed for two pair jacks and fives, but Newman was honest and best with his for a set of threes.

The flop was , Newman checked, Miles continued for 175,000 and Newman called.

The turn was and both players checked.

The river was for a fifth heart on the board and Newman bet 175,000. Miles thought and talked and called.

“Two pair,” Newman laughed showing and Miles flipped up for a turned set of kings.

Both players played the board and chopped the pot.

After Evgeny Kharchenko was eliminated, the next break came around and the heads-up match is underway with TK Miles holding a better than two-to-one lead over Michael Newman for the title.

The turn was and Michael Newman bet 75,000. Kharchenko raised to 200,000, Miles called, and Newman folded.

The river was and Kharchenko bet 200,000. Miles raised to 900,000 and Kharchenko thought for a few minutes before he mucked his hand.

The three remaining players were sent on a 10-minute break at the end of Level 26 and returned with Michael Newman holding a comfortable lead.

He picked up a few more chips before leaving on a board reading , Miles bet 900,000 and Newman came over the top for 3,000,000. That would have been most of Miles stack and he elected to fold two pair face up.

After some thought, Newman showed him for a heart flush.
