Championship: A Million Miles Away

Level 20:  Blinds 5,000/10,000/1,000 ante

We are now down to 40 players and some of them are starting to cross the 1 million chip barrier.

Mohammed Jaafar is currently around 1.2 million, Faraz Jaka stands at 1.1 million and Jonathan Borenstein is just over 1 million with other players closing in fast on that magic number.  Play rolls on here in our Main Event for about 35 mintues before play ends tonight.

Championship: Going, Going Gone

Level 19:  Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000 ante

As expected, mayhem has broken out in the Main Event after the bubble.  Fourteen players have already fallen and the event went from eight tables to six in swift fashion.

As the short stacks filter out, the players can start to think about that massive $480,200 payday for our champion as 49 grinders now remain alive.

Championship: Sheddy Bubbles

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$2 Million Guaranteed
Level 19:  Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000 ante

It looked like it would take a big hand to get the field in the money and Table 15 was the next candidate. Jeff Chang and “Sheddy” Siddiqui were mixing it up with Sheddy all-in and the board reading 8s3d2c7h.

They were forced through a long wait as Table 13 was taking their good time finishing up but it seemed everyone knew the hands involved. It was probably a tough pause for Siddiqui with bottom set 2h2s as Chang rolled over top set 8h8d.

“Sheddy” couldn’t find a river one outer and was sent out in 64th and the stone cold bubble.

Tournament staff added 20 minutes back on the clock because of the long bubble.

Championship: 10 and Counting

Level 19:  Blinds 4,000/8,000/1,000 ante

The slow trek to the money continues and the field has now gone 10 times around hand-for-hand action with only one player in real danger.

On the 9th hand, it was Bob Bounahra all-in for his final 64,000 and Matt Glantz called. They held the action until the rest of the hands were complete and they saw where they were.

Bounahra was far ahead AhAd against the KhQd of Glantz. He had a little sweat when Glantz got a piece of the Ks9s7s flop but his double came when the board completed 7cJc to move them into the 10th hand.

Championship: Birnbaum Out, Now On The Bubble

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$2 Million Guaranteed
Level 18:  Blinds 3,000/6,000/1,000 ante

With just a few minutes left in Level 18, one of the last two ladies remaining has fallen.

Extremely short stacked, Nancy Birnbaum went all in and faced off with Jamie Rosen.

Birnbaum: Ah6d
Rosen: AcTd

Birnbaum, behind and dominated, got no help as the board ran out 4dJhQh4s3d and was eliminated. Her elimination leaves Angel Vu as the last woman standing and the rest of the field on the bubble going hand for hand as we head to break with 64 players remaining.

Championship: Double Vu

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$2 Million Guaranteed
Level 18:  Blinds 3,000/6,000/1,000 ante

Angel Vu was riding the short stack since dinner and dropped down under five big blinds. She tried to get some action but was unable to find anyone to give her the courtesy double up though she stacked up enough in blind/antes to give her a shot

When she did get a chance for the double, it was against an opponent actually holding less. She called a 49,000 shove from the small blind but Elliott Zaydman was not tricked in the big blind. Vu was ahead with TdTh against QhJd and pulled the pot when the board ran clean Kc6c5d8s8c to give her a little more room to move.

Championship: Wade Doubles Thru Jaffee

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$2 Million Guaranteed

Level 18:  Blinds 3k/6k/1k ante

Tristan Wade (bb) and Jared Jaffee (hijack) took a flop of Qd4c2s.  Tristan checked, Jared bet 18k, Tristan kicked it up to 55k, Jared gave it some thought, then jammed.  Tristan snap-called all-in for 164,500 straight.

Jared rolled over AsQs for top/top, then groaned when he saw Tristan’s hand: Qh4h for two pair.

The dealer burned and turned the Td, which changed nothing.  The river washed up the 2c pairing the board, but leaving Tristan’s two pair the best.  He doubled up to about 380k.  Jared’s stack dropped to about 170k.

Event 17: Nick Pupillo Wins Championship ($7,978), Brian Morgan 2nd ($4,559)

$200 Big Stack Turbo No Limit Hold ‘Em (Re-Entry)
Level 30:  Blinds 40,000/80,000/10,000 ante

Brian Morgan put up a spirited fight but this one belonged to Nick Pupillo.

Pupillo, the overwhelming chip leader going into heads-up, pulled out every trick in the book including trying to eliminate Morgan on a play with 7-2 and then finally closed the door.

The final hand saw Morgan give it a shot with 4s6c and Pupillo holding 7h9c.  Morgan picked up a gutshot with the Kh3c2s flop to add to his outs but the board ran out 7s7c and ended the tournament.

Nick Pupillo takes down the title and $7,978 while Brian Morgan scores $4,559 for his runner-up finish.

Congratulations to our Event 17 Champion – Nick Pupillo!

Nick Pupillo - 1st Place ($7,978)
Nick Pupillo – 1st Place ($7,978)
Brian Morgan - 2nd Place ($4,559)
Brian Morgan – 2nd Place ($4,559)

Championship: Stammen Walks Then Leaves

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$2 Million Guaranteed
Level 17:  Blinds 2,500/5,000/500 ante

Players are in no hurry to put their chips at risk so close to the bubble, a change from normal post-dinner activity. Keven Stammen made a small error and it cost him a lot of his stack.

Already short after dinner, Stammen moved in for less than a min-raise over a pre-flop open, but his opponent lost track of the action and didn’t realize action was on him.

Thinking the player called, Stammen prematurely tabled AdTd and the floor was called. The other gentleman let his hand go despite the low cost and showed Ax8x while staff gave Stammen a one orbit penalty.

He joked with the rest of the field but came back to an even smaller stack. Stammen tried for a double several times but it was Angel Vu who finally looked him up from the big blind with TsTd. The WSOP and WPT winner needed help with AhKc but was left drawing thin after the JhTh3c flop.

The 7s turn left him pulling for a Queen but blanked the river to go out just short of the money.
