DJ Morris

Flight E returned from its second break of the day and registration closed on the penultimate flight of the big opener. The tournament board shows 748 entries but we will await word on the official number. Either way, it sets us up for another huge prize pool.

There was only one stack over 100,000 at the first break, Kevin Hazzard, but now there are many. DJ Morris has the biggest and his 180,000 tops the field at the money with Tom Nguyen not far behind with 170,000

Top ten stacks:

  1. DJ Morris – 180,000
  2. Tom Nguyen – 170,000
  3. Jay Romano – 145,000
  4. Collin Bramlett – 143,000

Event 1 Flight E: Victor Figueroa Cracks Aces to Double

Level 8: 400/800 with a 800 ante
Flight E Entries: 737

Victor Figueroa

After a series of raises, Victor Figueroa put his entire 20,800 stack on the line from the small blind and ran smack into the button’s aces.

Button: AhAd
Figueroa: JhTh

The former RRPO champ stood up from his seat when he saw the hands. He caught a flush draw on the Qc5h4h flop, blanked the 3d turn, but got there on the 7h river for the double.

Figueroa sat back down.

“What? Is this your first time playing a tournament?” Jake Schwartz joked from across the table. A fine needle about Figueroa standing up before the board was run.

Event 1 Flight E: Jay Romano Stacking; More Familiar Faces

$570 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 7: 300/600 with a 600 ante
Flight E Entries: 712

Jay Romano

More than 700 entries are now in Flight E and we are closing in on the 735 entries we picked up for this flight during last year’s series. That is a strong number and the prize pool will hit $1,200,000 before registration closes.

Former SHRP champ Jay Romano looks likes one of the biggest stacks in the room. He was among the leaders at the first break and now sits with 140,000. Other new, familiar faces in the room include Sheddy Siddiqui, Tristan Wade, Victor Figueroa, and Jacquelyn Scott.

Event 1 Flight E: Kevin Hazzard Leads

$570 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 5: 200/400 with a 400 ante
Flight E Entries: 606

Kevin Hazzard

The first break is complete and players are back in their seats. The entry count crossed over 600 during the break and continues to climb at a steady pace.

It was a quick walk around the room and we only found one stack over 100,000. It belongs to Kevin Hazzard and his 109,000 leads after four levels. Some other big stacks belong to Jay Romano (90,000), Kevin Blewitt (80,000), and Gerard Forrester (72,000).

Event 1 Flight E: The Return of Frankie Flowers

$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 4: 200/300 with a 300 ante
Flight E Entries: 540

Frankie Flowers

Players keep piling in the door of the Hard Rock Event Center and they put another $100,000 on top of the $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. Event 1 is on pace to top the 3,173 entries it attracted last year and it’s turning out to be a great starting weekend.

SHRP favorite Frankie Flowers is making his return to the Event Center after a good summer that saw him make the money 11 times in Las Vegas in various rooms and events. He’s trying to earn his second SHRP trophy to go along with the one he picked up during the 2016 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.

Event 1 Flight E: Sev Mandel Sends Two Out

$570 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)
$1,000,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 3: 100/200 with a 200 ante
Flight E Entries: 442

Sev Mandel

A nice pot developed at that front of the Event Center that ended up with two open seats. A short-stacked opponent moved all in from early position and picked up calls from the hijack and button players.

Sev Mandel three-bet from the small blind and only the button called to create a 10K side pot. Mandel moved all in for 11,700 after the QsTs6h flop and the button player called for the three-way all in hand.

Mandel: KdKs
Button: Th5h
Early Position: KhJc

Mandel was in good shape with the over pair but had to dodge an open-ended straight draw for the main pot and some odd combo draws for the side. The 4c turn was a blank and the case king Kc river was overkill to improve Mandel to a set. Two players were sent out and Mandel moved over 40,000.
