Carlos Loving
RECAP After a long day of grinding, Carlos Loving (Sarasota, FL) maneuvers his way through a 122 person field to emerge as the victor of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open event 11. This one-day event was a freeze-out, so there were no re-entries, which kept the field size to a manageable number. The tournament started at 12 noon, and was finished just over 13 hours later.
Loving has been a professional poker player for the past 10 years. He plays mostly in the Florida area, but also travels to Las Vegas every summer for the WSOP. Loving is also a poker coach and owns his own poker training website. He started the final table with 5 big blinds and grinded his stack back into contention. One big hand at the final table that he remembers is rivering a Jack against two other players’ pocket pairs to triple up. The most significant hand for him at the final table though is when he went up against chip leader Ilias Liapis during 3-handed play. On a board of , Loving checks then snap-calls the shove of Liapis.
Liapis: Loving:
Loving rivers a full house of 3s over Aces to best the flopped 2 pair of Liapis and double up his stack. Liapis was eliminated shortly thereafter.
This is the 3rd tournament that Loving has played in the series. He plans on playing more tournaments at the SHRPO, including the $350 buyin $30K guaranteed 6-max tournament tomorrow.
With 122 players, the tournament more than met its $50k guaranteed prize pool. Event 11 generated a total prizepool of $61,000, including $24,400 in bounties.
FINAL RESULTS 1. CARLOS LOVING (SARASOTA, FL): $12,079 2. JAMES SUTHERLAND (OCALA, FL): $6,844 3. ILIAS LIAPIS (KINGSLAND, GA): $4,538 4. MOHAMED MAGHRAOUI (BRANDON, FL): $3,257 5. 1st place – Carlos Loving
Heads Up play began with Carlos Loving having an overwhelming chip lead over his opponent James Sutherland. Sutherland would not give up, however, and kept hanging on…surviving all-in after all-in. After quite a long heads-up battle, Loving shoves all-in and Sutherland makes the call to put his tournament life at risk once again.
Sutherland: Loving:
Sutherland’s Ace-high lead pre-flop doesn’t last long when the board runs and Loving flops a pair of Kings to seal Sutherland’s fate. Sutherland finishes in 2nd place, making $6,844 after a hard day’s work.
Our Event 11 champion is Carlos Loving, taking home $12,079 for the win, the championship trophy, and a professionally framed winner’s portrait. Congratulations!
