Championship Day 1B: Jaffee Takes A Hit

$3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship
Level 10: 500/1,000/100 Ante

Jared Jaffee opened from the button for 2,200 and found two takers. The flop came 8c5s2c and the player in the small blind checked to Jaffee who bet 4,200. The player on the button folded while the player in the small blind made the call.

The turn was the Jh and it was checked to Jaffee who bet 8,800 which was called by his opponent. The river was the Qc and this time the player in the small blind sprang into action putting out a bet of 16,900.

Jaffee grabbed some chips, shrugged, and put out the call. His opponent tabled AcKc for the nut flush and Jaffee calmly slapped the table with his cards. Despite the hit, he’s still sitting with one of the bigger stacks in the room with over 150,000.

It’s been an entertaining night here in Flight 1B but all good things must come to an end.  We have reached the final level of the evening leaving one hour of play before the players who survive tonight will bag up their chips and move on to Day 2 tomorrow.   189 players are still standing out of the 404 entries tonight as wrap things up here in the ballroom.

Championship Day 1B: Smile!

Level 9: 400/800/100 Ante

We had a request from Table 19.

Jamie Gold and Jonathan Duhamel thought that the last picture we posted looked like they didn’t like each other so they wanted to make sure everyone out there knew they were friends and having a great time playing each other.

It has probably been the most jovial table of Day 1B as Gold, Duhamel, Barbara Cardin, Ed Blount along with Kelly Minkin have kept the table lively with the assistance of a few bottles of vino.

Level 9: 400/800/100 Ante

We got to the table with the board complete and showing Kc8c3c8s6h. There was approximately 17,000 in the pot and Harrison GImbel checked to Aaron Massey who made a bet of 10,200. Gimbel check-raised all in and Massey took several minutes before announcing a call.

Gimbel turned over Ac2c for the flopped nut flush. Massey attempted to muck his hand but the dealer turned it over, showing 8d2d for turned trip eights. Thus ended Massey’s night who will have one more day tomorrow to try and make it through to Sunday’s Day 2.

Level 9: 400/800/100 Ante

While there are not many overwhelming stacks in the room, a few players are making runs at Jared Jaffee’s chip lead tonight.

Ryan Rivers, Carlo Nini, Andy Hwang, Marco Rodriguez, Rex Clinkscales and Cornel Cimpan are amassing enough chips to be a force leading into Day 2.

There is about 25 mintues left in Level 9.  Players will play through Level 10 and close out play tonight around 12:30 AM.

Championship Day 1B: Bazeley Doubles Through Selbst

$3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship
Level 9: 400/800/100 Ante

We got to the table with approximately 7,000 already in the pot and the board showing QhJd6d. Vanessa Selbst was first to act and made a bet of 5,300. Jacob Bazeley called.

The turn was the Ah and Selbst thought for about 30 seconds before quietly announcing “all in.” Bazeley immediately said “call” and turned over AdQd for flopped top pair with the nut flush draw that turned top two pair. Selbst shook her head as she tabled AsKs. She would need a non-diamond king or ten to eliminate Bazeley.

The river was the 2h and Selbst, muttering to herself, had to send 26,600 over to Bazeley.

Level 8: 300/600/75 Ante

It’s only Day 1B but we could see another great by Jared Jaffee here at Seminole Hard Rock-Hollywood.

Jaffee keeps tacking chips on his stack and now around 210,000 chips as he continue to rebound from a tough Day 1B.

We’ll see if one of the hottest players in the game reach Day 2 and make another championship run here in Hollywood.

Championship Day 1B: Minkin Catches Gold Bluffing

$3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship
Level 8: 300/600/75 Ante

Kelly Minkin has obviously watched Jamie Gold’s past poker performances on television. Either that or she’s figured him out quickly. With the board completed and showing 9s6d3cKdJh Minkin checked over to Gold who quickly put out a bet of 10,000. Minkin wasted little time in putting out the call and Gold grinned, looking very much like the cat that ate the canary, as he turned over 3d2d for bottom pair.

Minkin turned over As6s for a pair of sixes prompting Gold to say to her “nice call.”

“Thanks,” said Minkin, as she stacked the chips formerly belonging to the 2006 WSOP Main Event Champion.

“Didn’t bet enough I guess,” said Gold, who still was sitting with a comfortable stack of over 100,000.
