Event 18: Joel Harwood out in 2nd; Charles Sinn Wins

$570 Big Stack Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max (Single Re-Entry)
Level 18: 4,000/8,000

The heads up match didn’t last very long with Charles Sinn picking up the majority of pots. After two dozen hands, Sinn had Joel Harwood all-in after the Qs8d6c with Joel Harwood’s AdQc9d5d against 8s7h6h5h.

Sinn was ahead with bottom two wrap draw before the turn and river blanked to give Sinn the win while Harwood was forced to settle for the runner-up position.

Event 18: Dmitriy Vernitskiy – 3rd Place ($5,369)

$570 Big Stack Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max (Single Re-Entry)
Level 18: 4,000/8,000

Dmitriy Vernitskiy was riding the short stack most of the final table but was entertaining his tablemates. It all came to an end for him in a family pot. Sinn bet enough after the Qs8d2h flop to cover Vernitskiy and it was called. Joel Harwood let his hand go and Sinn shrugged while getting a small rebate on his bet.

He was drawing with AdKhJsTc against Vernitskiy’s QcTh9d7h. The Jd gave Sinn 11 outs for the KO and one of them hit the Kd river for straight over straight win to send Vernitskiy out in 3rd.

“Use a good picture of me,” he joked as he walked to the payout desk.

Event 18: Jeffrey Palarino – 4th Place ($4,293)

$570 Big Stack Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max (Single Re-Entry)
Level 18: 4,000/8,000

Jeffrey Palarino was very active at the final table but was silenced by Joel Harwood. The board read As9d8h2d when Harwood bet the pot.

“How much is it?” Palarino asked. When he heard 168,000 from the dealer, he said he didn’t have that much. Still he called with the wrap Th9c7h6d against Harwood’s Aces up/flush draw AdKsJh8d. The 7d completed the straight but flushed Harwood to send Palarino out in 4th place for $4,293.

Event 18: Darius Studdard – 5th Place ($3,222)

$570 Big Stack Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max (Single Re-Entry)
Level 17: 3,000/6,000

Charles Sinn kept up the pressure after knocking out Ricardo Nakamura and was soon back in action. Just a few hands later he had Darius Studdar all-in after the Td9c8c flop.

Sinn tabled AdKsJh7c for the Jack-high straight against Studdard’s set of Tens AsTsTh4d. Studdard needed to pair the board to stay alive but missed as it ran out Jd and 3c to send him out in 5th place for $3,222.

Event 19: Ricardo Nakamura – 6th Place ($2,480)

$570 Big Stack Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max (Single Re-Entry)
Level 17: 3,000/6,000

Action didn’t go crazy between Ricardo Nakamura and Charles until the dealer put out the 8d4h2c flop. Then both players got the chips in the middle. Nakamura was ahead with bottom two Td9d4c2s against AhJh7h5d.

Nakamura improved his two pair on the 9h turn but Sinn came behind for a straight thanks to the Tc river. It took Nakamura a second to realize he tournament was down in 6th place for $2,480.

Recap:

It was the Viet Vo show all the way even when things got tight in the end.  And a spectacular hand wrapped up a grueling heads-up match to win the Event 18 title.

Vo had chips stacked up to his chin for most of the final table and after he eliminated Robert Edelstein in 3rd place, Vo was looking close out matters but it wasn’t easy.  Hanz Winsler decided to play small ball despite his huge deficit and Vo decided to play along to try to end it.

Winzler caught a break when down to around 100,000 chips he pulled off a three-outer with Ad5s against Vo’s Ah6s catching a five on the turn.  After that, Winzler slowly chipped up to around 430,000 chips.  Vo was still sitting on around 1.3 million but the pressure was mounting from Winzler.

But in the end Vo found a miracle of his own.  Vo called Winzler with 3d3c and Winzler holding AhJh.  A disasterous flop of 5h2sJs put Winsler ahead and it was looking bad with a 2d on the turn but the 3h came on the river leaving Winzler stunned and giving the ecstatic Vo the title.  Vo’s dominance also led to a stunning 29 bounties collected along the way including keeping his own.

Vo’s reaction to the win and his wild ride was one of joy and satisfaction.   “First day was good with set over set over set.  It started there and it went all the way.  When he was up to 430,000 I was like ‘My goodness not again’ because I’d gotten second place in one just like this and when he was building it up my confidence went down but I stuck with it.  I know if we play post-flop I got the better hands and I didn’t want to get in a flip like I did in the end.”

On the final hand Vo was enjoying the exciting moment that won him the tournament. “Unreal!  Lucky three! That never happened to me it was the first time and it was worth it.  I don’t know what to say.  Someone’s watching out for me.  I love this place!  I love Fort Lauderdale!  I love Miami!  I love everything right now!”

Congratulations to our Event 18 Champion – Viet Vo!
