2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown

Hollywood, FL
Event 2

Prize Pool: $19,890
March 17, 2017

Robert Campbell of Miami added yet another Omaha 8 title to his resume late Friday night at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Campbell bested a field of 78 entries in Event 2 of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, a $300 Omaha 8 or Better tournament, marking his fourth career Seminole title and 13th career victory overall. For his efforts, Campbell pocketed $6,721 and went down as the first entry in an exclusive freeroll. The event takes place March 29th and sees the first 14 SHRP Showdown champions earn their way in. The first prize is a $10,000 WPT Finale entry while the runner-up earns a $3,500 SHRP Showdown Championship seat. Both these prizes are put up by the Seminole Hard Rock.

“I like the idea of having a 1-in-14 chance at winning the $10K seat because I’m not actually planning to play the $10K tournament. It’s a strain on my budget.” Campbell said of the WPT Finale. “If I happen to win that seat, it could be a big deal. It’s always good to have a chance to get into a big buy-in tournament.”

Following the Event 2 win, Campbell has claimed the top spot in an Omaha 8 event at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open, Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown and Coco Poker Open among other non-Seminole venues. He sits on over $880,000 in reported earnings and continues to add to his total.

The event began at 12pm and permitted eight levels of late registration and re-entry. With a total of 78 entries, the top 10 earned a payday. Defending champion Jordan Chizick and Eric Rivkin were among those to bust shy of the money while Brandt Shuler (10th, $597) and Joel Harwood (sixth, $995) went home with some cash. Errol Massey, meanwhile, held the chip lead six-handed before bowing out third earning $2,427.

It was just before midnight when Rodger Smith busted second for $3,879 clocking the event in at just about 12 hours from start to finish.
