Darren Elias

On the first hand back from break, action folded to Darren Elias in the cutoff and he opened to 80,000. Joel Deutsch moved all in for 560,000 from the small blind and Elias called.

Elias: 4d4c
Deutsch: AhJc

Deutsch needed to improve to double up but missed the Ks8d2c9c7c board to go out 64th while Elias jumped into the lead.

Darren Elias – 6,175,000 (154 bb)
Joel Deutsch – Eliminated in 64th Place ($15,000)

Championship: Dan Bekavac Leads the Field at the Break with 5,955,000; Darren Elias Second with 5,515,000

Level 23:  20,000/40,000 with a 40,000 ante
Players Remaining:  64 of 2,010

Dan Bekavac

The players returned from break to begin Level 23, with increased blinds of 20,000-40,000 with a 40,000 ante.

A scan of the field during the break turned up only four players with at least three million in chips, and all of them had more than four million in chips. So there’s a pretty sizable gap between these chipleaders and the rest of the pack.

1.  Dan Bekavac  –  5,955,000  (149 bb)
2.  Darren Elias  –  5,515,000  (138 bb)
3.  Mark Davis  –  4,650,000  (116 bb)
4.  Dave Moore  –  4,015,000  (100 bb)

With 64 players remaining from a field of 2,010, the average chip stack is about 1,570,000 (39 big blinds). The field is in the money, with the remaining players guaranteed at least $15,000.

The 30-second Action Clock by Protection Poker is in use, and players have 30 seconds to make each decision. Each player has been given a limited number of non-transferable Time Chips that can be used to extend a decision by 30 seconds.

Championship: Neil Blumenfield Doubles Through Andrew Barfield

Level 21:  15,000/25,000 with a 25,000 ante
Players Remaining:  81 of 2,010

Neil Blumenfield

Andrew Barfield opened the action from middle position and Neil Blumenfield shipped for 270,000 from the small blind. Shannon Shorr folded his big blind and Barfield took a minute to make a decision.

“I’m going to do you a favor Neil,” Barfield said before he called.

Blumenfield: AdTh
Barfield: KsJs

Blumenfield was ahead but had some live cards to dodge. The 6h5c3s flop was safe, he paired the As turn, but now he had to sweat the spades. The Th river finished the board and Blumenfield found a needed double.

Neil Blumenfield – 590,000 (24 bb)
Andrew Barfield – 660,000 (26 bb)

Lexy Gavin

We caught Lexy Gavin walking away from the tournament area and she ran us through the details of her last hand.

Brett Murray opened to 55,000 from early position and Erion Qoku called from the cutoff. Gavin shipped for 300,000 from the small blind and Kumal Shah four-bet from the big blind to get folds from the Murray and Qoku.

It was a cooler in the blinds with Gavin running her AsKs into Shah’s pocket kings. She flopped a spade draw on the Js2s2d board but Shah improved to a full house on the 2c turn to leave her drawing dead to 91st place.

Kumal Shah – 2,775,000 (111 bbs)
Lexy Gavin – Eliminated in 91st Place ($9,300)

Mark Davis
Mark Davis leads the Day 3 return

The 2022 WPT Poker Showdown Championship locked in 2,010 entries and only 99 players remain with a shot at the title. They return at noon and get one step closer to the big WPT final table in Las Vegas.

Mark Davis leads the field with Marcos Exterkotter, Aram Zobian, Allan Rabinovich, and Dan Bekavac the closest to catching him early. There are plenty of chips in play so they have room to make moves.

They are scheduled to play throughout the day until the field is down to only 16 players, no matter how long that takes. The field will also go to eight-handed play when they reach 80 players which should not take very long.

Everyone has locked up a $9,300 payout but there’s still $1,000,300 sitting up top for the champion.

Top 10 returning stacks:

  1. Mark Davis – 3,740,000 (150 bb)
  2. Marcos Exterkotter – 3,230,000 (129 bb)
  3. Aram Zobian – 3,085,000 (123 bb)
