The Player of the Year leaderboard and points model received a makeover for the upcoming 2016/2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker season. As in past years, points will again be awarded during each of the 10 SHRP Championships beginning in September at Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee and concluding with the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in August.
Among the changes are:
- Players must finish in the money to earn leaderboard points
- Points are awarded based on a tiered model that weighs tournament buy-in amount and place finished – There are three tiers and each tier has its own points model
- Tier 1: $1,999 buy-in and lower (100 points for a win)
- Tier 2: $2,000 – $3,999 buy-in (105 points for a win)
- Tier 3: $4,000+ buy-in (110 points for a win)
- Following the conclusion of the SHRPO Championship, the top three points earners will receive prize packages – The POY’s package is estimated at a $32,450 value while 2nd and 3rd points earners win $19,750 and $13,750 packages

Winners of each of the SHRP Championship winners will receive a $5,250 seat in the season-ending Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship in August 2017.
