WPT Finale: Alan Sternberg Leads Final 27 Players

After nearly 14 hours of poker, the $10,000 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Finale is down to its final 27 players Alan Sternberg bagged up the chip lead heading into the tournament’s penultimate day of play.

Sternberg finished the day with 1,600,000 in chips and just barely edged out Terry Schumacher for the lead, who finished with 1,591,000. Former WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess was the only other player to finish with a seven-figure chip count. He’ll come into Tuesday with 1,056,000.

Josh Kay and Timothy West round out the top five chip counts with 842,000 and 828,000, respectively.

Play will resume on Tuesday at noon with an hour left in the current level with blinds of 5,000/10,000 with a 1,000 ante. There will be 90-minute levels for the whole day and they will play down to a final six players.

The day started with 176 players still remaining from Day 1, but 17 players opted to register before the start of Day 2 to bring the total field size to 349 players with 193 alive at the start of the day.

The top 44 players would earn a cash and the bubble broke just after midnight in level 17 when Dani Dayan ran pocket jacks into Anthony Spinella’s pocket kings and lost the side pot to Ray Qartomy’s ace-queen.

Everybody remaining is guaranteed a cash of at least $24,259, but the final six players that survive tomorrow’s action will be playing for $716,088 on a live streamed final table on Thursday.
