Recap

The opening event of the  Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ’N’ Roll” Poker Open was a two-day event that spanned a total of five days.  Six starting flights over three days drew a total of 2,131 entries and when it was all over, Ory Hen (Cooper City, FL) walked away with the lions share of the prize pool.  He was the chip leader when the final five agreed on an ICM-based chop, resulting in Hen collecting $66,780. He’ll also take home the Event 1 trophy and a 16×20 custom framed photograph provided by IMPDI.

With over 2,000 entries, the $500,000 guarantee on this event was covered with ease.  The total prize pool came to $639,300 and was paid out to the top 200 players.  412 players survived the six starting flights and returned on Sunday for Day 2.  Hen played flight A and busted out, deciding to re-enter the same flight.  The second bullet paid off as he finished up eighth in chips, coming back for day 2 with 298,600.

“From 80 players down to 30 players, I was the chip leader,” Hen said.  “Then I went card dead.”  He finished up Day 2 in the middle of the remaining eleven players with only 2.5 million chips (12.5 big blinds).  On Day 3, Hen got some big hands, busting 9th place finisher Barry Chazen with pocket Queens over pocket 9s, then doubling up with pocket deuces against Ryan Miller’s overcards.  Hen later took the last of Miller’s chips, sending Miller to the rail in 6th place.

The final five players very quickly decided to wrap it up with a chip-based chop and Hen added another win to his $639k in career tournament earnings.  He’s running well as he just booked a 9th place finish in the Borgata Poker Open Championship in September for over $71k.

Hen is basically a ‘semi-professional’ poker player, who also has a real estate business and owns a locksmith company in New York.  He’s going to take some time off, but will be back at it later in he week.  Hen also already has two seats locked up for the Championship event, which starts Friday after Thanksgiving.
