David Gunas, WSOPC Monster Stack Champion

The Monster Stack event gave players plenty of chips to put to use and the field size matched the name. It was a full house at the start of the tournament and we watched as David Gunas ran them all down to take the title along with $28,378 and the WSOPC ring.

There were 430 entries in the $365 Monster Stack event and the field was big enough to spread into the meeting room across the hall in early levels. They put together a prize pool worth $129,000 with 45 players grabbing some money before Day 1 was complete.

They reached the money bubble after the dinner break but the pace slowed at that point. It took eleven rounds of hand-for-hand action to put the field in the money. The action picked back up after the money bubble burst and only 22 players remained at the end of Day 1.

Three-time SHRP champ/two-time WSOPC winner Carlos Loving was among the top stacks near the end of the day but jumped into the lead when he knocked out both SHRP team member Sheddy Siddiqui and 2016 SHRP Player of the Year David Prociak in one of the last hands of the evening.

Only 22 players returned for Day 2 and Loving was able to stay near the top throughout. The final table ten was formed when SHRP team member Jessica Dawley went out in 11th place and it was packed with tough players.

SHRP regular Nancy Thomas went out ninth place followed by SHR Tampa standout Herbert Woodbery. Former SHRP champs Steven Bennett and Georges Boyadjian went out next before Loving dipped out in fifth place.

Jeffrey Dickman hit the rail in fourth place and the final three players settled into an extended grind with deep stacks and slow structure. Michael Ortiz was the first to fall out in third place and Gunas defeated Bryce McVay heads up for the title after a back-and-forth battle.

Gunas picked up $28,379 for the Monster Stack win to more than double his reported career earnings. This continues a nice WSOPC run for him after he picked up a runner-up results a few weeks at the series in Foxwoods. He now owns a WSOPC ring of his own and set himself up for a successful series.
