In the poker world, David Peters doesn’t have much left to prove in the poker world. He’s one of the most accomplished poker players on the planet with over $18 million in tournament earnings and crushes the biggest buy-in tournaments on the planet.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Peters added another trophy to his already crowded trophy case. After battling heads-up with Scott Wright for several hours, the Ohio native defeated a 61-entry field in the $5,000 no limit hold’em event to add another $104,309 to his career earnings.

The heads-up match saw countless lead changes and it was one of the more exciting battles of the 2017 Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open.

“It was crazy,” said Peters about the heads-up match. “I had him all in so many different times, but he just wouldn’t die. We kept going back and forth. It was a battle for sure. It feels good to win.”

Peters makes his living on the felt, playing mostly other top pros. Wright on the other hand, makes his living as a financial adviser. Some of Wright’s unorthodox plays at the table put Peters in some uncomfortable situations.

“Sometimes he would throw out some very large bets,” said Peters. “There was a couple times where there were some tough spots because I didn’t have much room to maneuver. But it worked out.”

He earned a six-figure score today in this event, but he’s still alive in the $3,500 no limit hold’em championship event with 18 players remaining. After Day 3 ended with two tables remaining, he late registered this event and took it down.

“It was nice that we finished at like 4 o’clock,” said Peters about the championship event. “That never happens. It allowed me to hop in this.”

The 30-year-old poker pro heads into the penultimate day of the championship with 15 big blinds and the shortest remaining stack, but now he’s riding a hot streak heading into Tuesday’s action.

“It feels great and it’s less stressful going into tomorrow, I guess,” said Peters. “I would feel better now if I don’t happen to win it. It feels great having some momentum coming into tomorrow.”
