Randall Emmett

Championship Day 1B has some Hollywood, California talent in the field and Randall Emmett has been trying to make a name for himself in the poker world. He is a movie producer who has been spending a lot of time at the poker table over the last few months.

Emmett was part of a fun Poker Night in America cash game episode and he won a Rio Deepstacks event over the summer. But he jumped to everyone’s attention with an over-the-top infamous entrance to his WSOP Main Event seat.

“They let me do a lot of things in poker that nobody should be allowed to do,” Emmett laughed. “And it’s only because I’m out of my mind.”

Now he’s taking his shot at the SHRPO Championship and his 80,000 put him near the top.

Championship Day 1B: Robin Jofre Takes the Lead

Robin Jofre

The second break is complete and we have a new leader in the room. Robin Jofre came out of nowhere and stacked up to 173,000 over four levels. Former leader Uri Kadosh dropped to 89,000 but still among the bigger stacks.

We took a look for all stacks over 100,000 and a baker’s dozen over that mark.

  1. Robin Jofre – 173,000
  2. Jorge Cuesta – 160,000
  3. Qasem Jamhour – 151,000

Flight B Entries: 372 (Total Entries: 791)

Matt Savage (standing) and Layne Flack (sitting)

Don’t call them old school, you might not like the reaction. But we do have some of the old poker guard in the room today with six-time WSOP bracelet Layne “Back-to-Back” Flack playing in the Championship.

WPT Executive Tour Director Matt Savage stopped by to say hi to Flack after the break and the two are long-time friends. Savage was the WSOP Tournament Director from 2002 through 2004 when Flack won three of his six bracelets. Flack has more than $5 million in career earnings, six WPT final tables, one WPT win, and two dozen tournament victories with the first coming way back in 1995.

Championship Day 1B: Uri Kadosh Leads

Level 3: 200/300 with a 300 ante
Flight B Entries: 347 (Total Entries: 766)

Uri Kadosh

Championship players returned to their seats and the prize pool continued to climb even as they were away.

Raman Sivakumar was the early leader and he is still near the top of the counts, just not at the top. SHRP regular Uri Kadosh was your first break lead with 138,000 and Truyen Nguyen was the only other player in six-digits. We tracked down the other players with double starting stacks and only found seven total.

Uri Kadosh – 138,000
Truyen Nguyen – 120,000
Raman Sivakumar – 99,700
Nicholas Schwarmann – 85,000

Maria Konnikova

Championship Flight B players are now taking their first break of the day with 312 entries pushing the prize pool over $3.5 million so far.

Lisa Costello decided to fire her first bullet this afternoon and witnessed the big, early hand by Raman Sivakumar. She has over $200K in earnings but making her first trek to South Florida for our big event.

Maria Konnikova is back with us today after an unfortunate late night run in Flight A. She was cruising to a Day 2 stack when she busted from the Championship with 30 minutes remaining in the day.

Editors note: Konnikova, writer-turned-poker player, was featured in a recent New York Times piece if you’d like to know more about the PokerStars Team Pro.

Nathan Papp

Nathan Papp has been on the ultimate freeroll over the last 12 months. He earned 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year honors and won an entry into every major SHRP Championship event throughout the year.

This is the last tournament from his winner package and he will be turning over the reins to someone new after this weekend.

Darryll Fish is the frontrunner for this year with Brett Bader the closest to catching him. Neither bagged yesterday and we’ll see if they re-enter today.
