Event 4: PLO Growing

$360 Pot Limit Omaha (Re-Entry)
Structure Sheet
Level 5: 200/300
Total Entries: 65

Wally Maddah

The Pot Limit Omaha event is on its first break of the day an hour after the Ultimate Re-Entry took their breather. They have 65 entries in the mix so far with a chance to reach last year’s numbers.

Seminole Hard Rock Tampa poker ambassador Wally Maddah had a decision to make today. Since he already advanced to Day 2 of the Ultimate Re-Entry event, he could take another shot to pick up a $2,500 Multi-stack award for a second stack or sit down in the PLO game. A variant that he says he does not have a ton of experience playing.

Maddah chose PLO and he might be understating his abilities. He booked a PLO tournament win during the 2013 Fall Tampa Bay Poker Open, made the final table of the 2016 SHRPO PLO event, and finished eighth in the WSOP Circuit PLO event here in September.

Level 5: 150/300 with a 25 ante
Flight E Entries: 312

Nigel Murray

Flight E players returned from their first break of the day and the entry count jumped over 300 while they were away. There are still eight levels, plus two breaks, for players to come down to the ballroom to join the big crowd and push the prize pool higher.

SHRP regular Nigel Murray was the first break chip leader with 73,000 and enough to give him a little extra time on break. Adam Hamby came back to a second place stack with Norman Guigui, Tuan Nguyen, and 2014 Coco Poker Open Heads-Up Champ Antonio Campbell rounding out the top five.

There’s still plenty of poker to go and a lot of time for others to catch them.

Top stacks:

Nigel Murray – 73,000 (243 bb)
Adam Hamby – 65,500 (218 bb)
Norman Guigui – 54,000 (180 bb)
Tuan Nguyen – 48,800 (163 bb)
Antonio Campbell – 42,000 (140 bb)
Yue Wang – 41,500 (138 bb)
Michael Newman – 39,900 (133 bb)
Ofer Peleg – 38,000 (127 bb)
David Katz – 36,000 (120 bb)
Alan Wentz – 35,000 (117 bb)

The big field in Flight E is off on its first break of the day and on the doorstep of reaching 300 entries. The biggest flight to date was yesterday Flight C with 352 entries and we should easily pass that by.

We’ll take our first look around the room for our early chip leaders while they have a rest.

Event 4: Pot Limit Prociak

David Prociak

The Pot Limit Omaha game is slowly building while the ballroom across the hall is packed with Ultimate Re-Entry players. We mentioned Michael Newman, defending champ, and his exploits in the non-hold’em games.

David Prociak knows a little something about those games as well. The 2016 SHRP Player of the Year has eight tournament wins with only one in a No Limit Hold’em tournament. Six of those came in Pot Limit Omaha including his first WSOP Circuit ring here in September. Prociak holds a Stud Hi/Lo WSOP bracelet from the summer of 2016 and four major SHRP PLO trophies.

Like Newman, Prociak also captured titles in three straight series including two PLO titles during the 2017 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open.

Michael Newman

The clock rolled over into the afternoon and we expected to find ten-time SHRP winner Michael Newman sitting in the Event 4 Pot Limit Omaha field to defend his title. Instead, we found him seated in the huge Ultimate Re-Entry Flight E field trying to push his first stack forward.

Newman accomplished quite the feat last year when he won a tournament in three straight SHRP major series. He won the SHRPO $570 event in August 2016, followed that up with his RRPO Pot Limit Omaha win last November, and capped it off with another Pot Limit Omaha win during the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open.

Michael Newman, defending RRPO Pot Limit Omaha champ

Pot Limit Omaha tournaments are one of the favorite events on any SHRP schedule and today we will crown our next PLO champ. SHRP regular Michael Newman took the crown last year and we expect to see him back to defend this afternoon.

The tournament gives players 10,000 starting stacks and the tournament will run 30-minute levels from start to finish. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 4:30pm and they can expect a dinner break around 6:30pm. This is another one-day trophy event and they will continue playing down until we award another title.

Action will get underway at noon and we will keep an eye out for some fast play.

  • Players begin with 10,000 in chips and 30-minute levels
  • Late registration/re-entry available until start of Level 9
  • This is a one-day tournament and plays until completion

Joey Alegria

Flight E crossed over 150 entries after 30 minutes of play to put the prize pool over $425,000 and well within the reach of the $500,000 Guarantee. That should hit sometime this afternoon before registration closes at 5:45pm.

The big opening tournament is drawing players from around the state and we found a Tampa regular in today’s field. Joey Alegria hails from the west coast of the state and made his way east from the Tampa area. He picked up two huge scores last year with two final tables in the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Winter Poker Open including an eighth-place finish in the Championship. Alegria also picked up a nice payout by making the final two tables of the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $1,100 Big 4 event.

Level 1: 25/50

We are halfway through the starting flights of the Ultimate Re-Entry event and we are poised to cross the $500,000 guaranteed prize pool mark this afternoon. With a combined 1,295 entries in the game so far, the tournament is only 372 away from hitting the magic number and begin building the prize pool higher.

David Prociak, the 2016 SHRP Player of the Year, is the front-runner at the midway point with 579,000 and we have 11 players who will take advantage of the Ultimate Re-Entry format. Players can enter as many flights as they wish and may advance multiple stacks into Day 2. They will receive a $2,500 Multi-stack award for their smaller stacks and play their biggest on Day 2.

Each entrant will start with a 15,000 stack and play 30-minute levels throughout the day. Late registration and re-entries are available until the start of Level 13 at 5:45pm and they will continue to play until 10% of the field remains (rounding down). Those survivors will all be in the money before taking their seats for Day 2.

We will start the fifth flight at 11am and we expect a big crown for a Friday afternoon.
