Event 10 Day 1C: Kicking Off the Weekend

Matthew Yorra leads Event 10 after two flights

The first two flights of Event 1 are wrapped up and it’s time for the middle two flights to get rolling, starting off with Flight C at 11am. The big $570 buy-in Event 10 is well on pace to surpass its $1,000,000 Guarantee and we’ll get closer this afternoon.

Two Matts sit atop the leaderboard after yesterday’s action. Matthew Yorra bagged up 332,500 in the opening flight while SHRP team member Matt Affleck put 310,500 in his bag early this morning. The tournament drew a combined 725 entrants yesterday with 134 moving on.

The next session is set to run at the top of the hour and players will sit down to 20,000 starting stacks. Levels will run 30 minutes today with late registration and re-entry available until the start of Level 9 at 3:30pm. Play will conclude at the end of Level 14 and those with chips will return on Sunday for Day 2.

Flight A is back underway after the final break of the day with only 87 players remain of the 369 starting entrants.

David Lithgow has been among the leaders throughout the day, now he’s back on top. His stack is more than 100K clear of the second biggest stack owned by Paul Balzano and Randall Pfeifer is sporting a castle as well.

Two more levels to play and the survivors will bag up for a return on Sunday.

The field is creeping back towards a single digit size but Paul Balzano is not going anywhere. He’s quietly built his stack to 150,000 with a few more levels in the day and looking good for a late run. Balzano has a few SHRP titles to his credit with his last coming in 2012 during the 2012 Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open” series.

They will play down this level, take a 15-minute break, then finish out two more levels before bagging up.

Registration has closed on the first flight of Event 10 and it’s a very nice number. The morning session drew 369 entrants to set a nice pace for the next five flights.

Looking Back at SHRPO Week 1

One week of the 2016 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open is locked down and the first nine trophies were awarded. We kicked things off with a huge field in Event 1 which drew 2,570 entrants and it was Nicholas Mahabee outlasting them all.

Before he won his tournament, Jordan Chizick won Event 2 with its one-day run. Dan Heimiller was the most accomplished player of those nine to pick up a trophy; it was his second SHRP title to go along with his two WSOP bracelets and $5.8 million in career earnings.

The first nine events on the schedule drew 5,211 entrants and we’ve awarded more than $1.2 million in prize money so far. A nice warm up to the bigger, richer events on the horizon.
