Two-Time WPT Champion Aaron Mermelstein

Mitchell Smith moved all in from the small blind, and Aaron Mermelstein called all in from the big blind for 340,000 with 8s8h.

Smith turned over Ah7d, and Mermelstein needed his hand to hold to stay alive.

The board came AdQc7s10sJs, and Smith flopped two pair, aces and sevens, to win the pot and eliminate Mermelstein in 16th place.

Mitchell Smith  –  1,380,000  (28 bb)
Aaron Mermelstein  –  Eliminated in 16th Place  ($27,825)

With three hands to go back on Day 2 and 65 players still in the field, Mermelstein lost a big pot to get knocked down to just two big blinds. Mermelstein then went on to win those next three hands to end Day 2 with 20 big blinds, and then went on to survive Day 3 as well, passing many pay jumps along the way.

If Mermelstein had busted at the end of Day 2, he would have picked up $8,480, but instead his 16th place finish earned $27,825. Not a bad little comeback.
