Faraz Jaka

The battle for the Day 1A chip lead of the 2017 Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open Championship event was a tightly contested battle. At the night’s end, SHRP Team Member Faraz Jaka was edged out by Amir Tawfik for the biggest stack of the flight.

Tawfik finished with 240,000 to lead the 91 survivors. Jaka just narrowly missed out on the chip lead, finishing with 238,800. Bruce Freedman was also in the race for the lead. He also narrowly missed out on the chip leader title. He finished third with 238,400.

Albert Destrade (229,500) and Ray Qartomy (201,000) round out the top five stacks and are the only players to crack the 200,000-chip mark.

Other notables to survive the day include Ian O’Hara (188,400), Jacquelyn Scott (173,500), Ben Zamani (163,000), TK Miles (138,900), Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Ambassador Wally Maddah (129,400), Tom Marchese (101,400), Aaron Massey (92,900), Josh Kay (68,500), Jake Schwartz (63,400) and Matt Stout (29,600).

The field drew 273 entries on the first of two Day 1’s, which generated $819,000 to the $2 million guaranteed prize pool. By the end of the 10, 60-minute levels, the field was trimmed to its final 91 players.

Those 91 players will have an off-day on Saturday before coming back to play Day 2 at noon on Sunday. Day 1B will finish off the starting flights and will kick off at noon on Saturday to play the same schedule that the first flight played today.
