Championship Day 1C: Riess Eliminated

$3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship
Level 9: 400/800/100 Ante

A short-stacked Ryan Riess moved all in for his last 7,100 from under-the-gun and it was folded around to the big blind. Riess smiled at his neighbor and said “can I get through?”

His foe held up his first card, and liking what he saw said “I call” and turned over Ac5s. It was ahead of Riess and his Qd9c. The flop came KdJc8s to give Riess a few more outs as a ten would give him a straight. The turn was the 8c and Riess needed that ten, a queen, or a nine to stay alive.

It was not to be, however, as the river was the 6d. “Good luck guys,” said a gracious Riess as he gathered his things, his trip to Florida ending on a bittersweet note.  He doesn’t go home empty handed though as he did pick up a trophy and a nice payday just a few days ago.
