Championship: Ray Qartomy Bluffs Off Most of it, Flips For the Rest

$3,500 WPT Showdown Championship (Re-Entry)
Level 7: 250/500 with a 75 Ante
Entries: 1,072

Ray Qartomy limped in from early position, Patrick Eskandar did the same a couple seats over, and Tim West joined on the button. From the small blind, Joseph Cappello three-bet to 2,250. Fermin Micheo called in the big blind, and the three limpers called the remainder to create a five-way pot.

All five players checked through the Qc9h2d flop, and the turn was the Ah. The blinds checked, and Qartomy bet 4,300. Everyone folded except for Micheo, who called to see the river. It was the Jc, and Micheo led out for 8,000 of his own. Qartomy raised to 22,000, which was most of his remaining stack. Micheo called, Qartomy just mucked, and Micheo showed Ad9h for two pair as the dealer pushed him the pot.

A few hands later, Qartomy moved all in for his last 2,450 behind a few limps. The first limper, Tim West, re-shoved for 19,350, and that got him heads-up with Qartomy and flipping for the knockout.

Qartomy: 6h8h
West: 3h3s

Qartomy’s plight improved on every street, but he could not get over the hump on the 9s7s2d7d7h run-out. West ended with sevens full, eliminating Qartomy with one level left in the re-entry period.

Fermin Micheo – 115,000
Tim West – 24,500
Ray Qartomy – Eliminated
