The player under the gun opened to 20,000, and Zoltan Czinkota three-bet to 40,000 next to act. Action froze on Jason Young for maybe 30 seconds or so, but after a short exchange with Czinkota, he eventually folded. The initial raiser called the remainder to see the flop.

It came Js7d4c, and both players checked. The raiser check-called a small bet of 10,000 on the 2d turn, and both players checked through the Kh river. Czinkota showed 9c9h, winning the pot with a pair of nines.

“I showed you so much respect right there,” Young said after the hand.

“You had better than pocket nines?” Czinkota asked. Young nodded. “You folded a bigger pair than nines?” Czinkota was in apparent disbelief. “You never had a bigger pair than nines! You had a bigger pair than nines?”

Young saw us jotting down notes, and he lamented his newfound patience. “I’m such a nit now,” he sighed. “Remember when I used to just be in there? If I made a bad decision — so what? — I’d go to the bar. Now I just fold pairs preflop and stuff.”
