Marcus Stein was the short stack (3 big blinds) with nine players remaining when the table stopped to seriously discuss a chop — now he’s chipleader.

Shortly after play resumed, with blinds at 40K-80K, Stein was all in UTG+1 for 450,000, and John DePersio called from middle position with 10h10d. Stein turned over Ah8h, and he’d need to improve to stay alive.

The board came Kc8s4sAcKd, and Stein turned two pair to win the pot and double up in chips.

Marcus Stein  –  1,110,000  (13 bb)
John DePersio  –  990,000  (12 bb)

Stein has steadily chipped up since then, and there wasn’t any all-in-and-call situations for a surprisingly long time.

Then, with the blinds at 50K-100K, Michael Fryett moved all in under the gun for 630,000, and Marcus Stein moved all in over the top from the hijack for more than 2 million. Everyone else folded.

Fryett turned over 5s5d, and he needed his hand to hold to stay alive against Stein’s AdQh.

The board came AhQc4c7sQs, and Stein won the pot with a full house, queens full of aces, to eliminate Fryett in ninth place. Not only that, but former short-stack Marcus Stein is the new chipleader at this final table.

Marcus Stein  –  3,050,000  (30 bb)
Michael Fryett  –  Eliminated in 9th Place  ($3,557)
