Stewart Newman

The bubble has been no fun at all for SHRP Team member Stewart Newman. He had somewhere around 40,000 chips when hand-for-hand play began more than an hour ago, but he slowly watched his stack whittled down to crumbs as several other short stacks doubled up around him.

Newman was down to his last 8,000 chips just a moment ago, with half of those committed to the big blind. Hyon Kim set him all in from the small blind, and fortunately for Newman, he woke up with a big hand with his tournament life on the line. He put the other half of his chips into the middle to put himself at risk.

Kim managed to flop a wheel draw, but that’s as close as he’d come to bursting the bubble. The board ultimately ran out clean for Newman, and he doubled up at a most opportune time.

“All right, I’m going to the bathroom,” Newman said as he walked out of the room. “I’m not putting another chip in.”

Stewart Newman – 19,000 (5 bb)
Hyon Kim – 120,000 (30 bb)
