Event 15: Matt Stout Wins Championship ($53,920), Jason Mercier Finishes 2nd ($36,520)

$2,200 Six-Max No Limit Hold’em (Freezeout)
Level 20: 4,000/8,000/1,000 Ante

The frustration is over.

Matt Stout, one of the most recognizable and popular players in poker, has finally gotten his first live victory since May 20, 2009 taking down Event 15 and holding off Jason Mercier to do it.

Stout had a huge chip lead to start heads-up, survived losing a three-outer and then put Mercier away at the close of Level 20.

The chips ended up in the middle with both players again holding an ace and again Stout was out in front.

Stout: AsTs
Mercier: Ah6d

The flop of 3s7sAc put Stout in a commanding position. With the 5s on the turn, Stout hit his flush and Mercier was drawing dead.

A very happy and relieved Stout claims the Event 15 championship holding off an all-star field and also picking up $53,920. Mercier, whose father was proudly railing him all night, closed out an outstanding run of his own in 2nd place taking home $36,520.

Congratulations to our Event 15 Champion – Matt Stout!
