RECAP:
Event 3 ($300 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em) attracted a small but spirited field of 19 entries at the Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open. The tournament took a surprisingly long time to play down to a winner thanks to a three-handed battle that lasted for hours on the money bubble between Catherine Storms, Patricia Cahilo, and Luminita Petric.
In the end it was Storms who stormed her way to the top of the tournament. She started three-handed play as the chip leader, and although she lost the lead for a bit, she regained control to win her first tournament title. “It was intense, it sucked because I went from the chip leader to the short stack. I had to adjust my play to the players. Obviously you have to adjust when you play, and I had to do that big time when we were three handed,” said Storms when asked about the stalemate between the final three players.
She faced a chip deficit going into heads-up play after Cahilo eliminated Petric in third place. Cahilo held pocket eights and that was enough to top the held by Petric on a
board. Cahilo held 110,000 after the hand, giving her a slight lead over Storms stack of 80,000 for the start of the final match.
The heads-up final took just minutes after three-handed play had lasted multiple hours. On the final hand, Cahilo had her tournament life pinned on but Storms had her dominated with
in the hole. The final board of the tournament ran out
and Cahilo was eliminated in second place, good for $1,696.
Storms took home $3,149 and the Lucky Hearts Poker Open guitar pick trophy as the champion. “It feels pretty awesome, it validates my play a little bit,” said Storms after the victory.
