There was a huge field for today’s $400 Deepstack NLH event, with 323 entries more than doubling the guaranteed prizepool. The action started at 12:00 noon, and it was around 12:30 am when the field got down to nine players for the final table.

Marc Fine had a huge lead as the final table began, but would ultimately finish 3rd as the final table lasted about four hours.

That left Wanlop Phonphornwithoon and Gustavo Lopez to battle for the title, and Phonphornwithoon opened up a 3-to-1 chip lead before they got it all in on the turn with a board showing 10x7x7xJx. Lopez had 7x2x for trip sevens, but Phonphornwithoon had him dominated with Ax7x for trip sevens with an ace kicker, and he was one card away from winning the tournament.

But the river card was a 2x, giving Lopez a full house to double up in chips, effectively evening their stacks.

They battled for another 15 minutes or so before getting it all in after a flop of Ah7h6h. Phonphornwithoon showed 10s10d, while Lopez had him covered with Kh3d for a heart flush draw.

The turn card was the 9s, and the river card was the 5h. Lopez rivered his flush to win the pot — and the tournament.

Lopez is a local player from Miami, and this is the first victory at the Seminole Hard Rock. Along with the title, Lopez wins $23,755, a SHRPO trophy, and a custom-framed winner’s photo courtesy of IMPDI.
