The field is still growing rapidly as Level 7 ticks off the clock, and one of the recent entries is a bit of a blast from the past.

Bill Gazes was a fixture of televised poker broadcasts during the mid-2000s, including some of the more memorable off-the-felt segments involving prop betting and feats of physical prowess. Or lack thereof, to be more specific. Gazes’ name might be most commonly associated with a comedically poor field goal attempt during the 2007 WSOP broadcast.

Gazes is much more revered for his accomplishments on the felt than on the gridiron, though. He’s earned more than $2.3 million in his live tournament career, including appearances at seven WSOP final tables and two WPT final tables. Gazes hasn’t recorded a live result since 2011, but he’s in attendance for this Day 1C flight trying to break that dry spell.

He’s up to his old tricks, too. In the most recent hand, three players limped into the pot for 500 apiece, and Gazes squeezed in a raise to 2,800 from the cutoff. Everyone folded in turn, and Gazes stacked the uncontested pot to inch back over starting stack.
