Championship Event Day 1A: Denisov and Miles Lead

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 10: 500/1,000/100 Ante

In a very balanced evening in this WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open Day 1A, a few players flirted with 200,000 chips but only two actually made that benchmark when play ended.

Aleksandr Denisov, fresh off the second biggest score of his career after winning an event at this year’s PCA, ends Day 1A as the chipleader on a late run bagging 220,100.  Close behind was Timothy Miles who pulled off a final mark of 208,000.  They are followed by Michael Wang at 196,900, Sheldon Gross at 192,800 and Dan Dyke at 189,500.

The rest of the pack is bunched up as 125 players out of the 357 entries advanced into Day 2 as the race to win this WPT title and have their name etched on the Champions Cup will continue.  All the players that advanced will return to play Sunday at noon.

Play resumes for a brand new group of players Friday for Day 1B at noon.

Championship Event Day 1A: 4-4 On 44

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 10: 500/1,000/100 Ante

The seat opened up between Allen Kessler, Jeff Gross and Stuart Patterson which is

an ideal spot.  But when you have a quarter-million chips, you can feel a little more secure.  Sheldon Gross is that guy and he just cleared another player from the field on Table 44.

Kessler and Patterson had been discussing pocket fours causing eliminations on this table and after a board of 7dKd5sKh4h, Sheldon got his opponent to call off the remainder of his stack.  His opponent hit the trip kings but Gross flipped over 4s4d for the rivered full house and added to one of the bigger stacks in Day 1A.

Championship Event Day 1: Final Level

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 10: 500/1,000/100 Ante

We’ve hit the final level of play for tonight’s Day 1A here in the Championship event.  Many of poker’s elite, the best players the area has to offer and the potential cinderella stories hoping to make a dream come true are one hour way from getting one step closer to a WPT title by making Day 2.

In contrast to many tournaments we see here where eliminations come faster than a “Open Seat!” call, we have quite a few players still standing as 167 are still alive out of the 357 entries today.

Of course, the last level is coming up and players will have to decide whether to push their short stacks and risk having to fire another bullet or carry it over to Sunday.  It should be a great finish to tonight’s Day 1A coming up in less than an hour.

Championship Event Day 1A: The Odd Trio

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 9: 250/500/75 Ante

Upon scouring the tables, we dug up three poker superstars all in tight group that would make for a heck of a reality show.

Stuart Patterson, Jeff Gross and Allen Kessler are together for one night only sharing some space in this Championship event.  All are seeking their first WPT title but may have to survive each other first as play continues on with about 15 minutes remaining in Level 9.

Championship Event Day 1A: Dyke Still Up

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 9: 250/500/75 Ante

The man who played a large part in the abrupt exit of Chino Rheem is still doing quite well.  Atlanta’s Dan Dyke is holding over the 200,000 chip mark despite having to deal with Rheem plus Daren Stabinski and John Racener sitting on his side of the table.

Dyke has won three titles per Hendon Mob including two in a week at the WPS Bahamas Poker Showdown in 2007.  His top cash was here at the 2013 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open for $58,175.

Sitting over 200,000 chips at last check, Dyke is one the many players hoping to have his breakout performance here in the WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open and is on his way to advancing to Day 2.

Championship Event Day 1A: Who’s The Boss?

$3,500 Championship No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 8: 300/600/75 Ante

Danny Suied didn’t get the nickname “Miami Boss” for nothing.

Suied facing a 8hJcKs2s5h checked to his opponent who fired out 16,000 after the river card putting him to the test.  Making different facial contortions as he mentally went through the hand, Suied finally decided to make the call.  His opponent admitted the bluff and showed As10s for the busted flush draw while Suied flipped over JsTh for second pair but the best hand.

Suied is chipping up and looking to become a major factor in Day 1A as play rolls on here in Level 8.
