The 1,200,000 chips of Russell Sullivan

Russell Sullivan is now comfortably over 1,000,000 after picking up kings against aces and another opponent’s 9x8x. The runout improved Sullivan to quads and he busted a pair of tablemates.

“Wow!” Sullivan said standing from the table. “Now I know I’m chipleader.”

Indeed he is.

Russell Sullivan – 1,200,000

Event 1: The Shrinking Field Heads on Break

$580 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$500,000 Guaranteed | Payouts
Heading to Level 20: 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 106 of 1,612

Erik Cajelais

The remaining 100 or so Event 1 players are on a 15-minute recess. With the field shrinking around him, Erik Cajalais — who owns more than $3,300,000 in reported tournament earnings — is one of the most notable players still in. The last hand before break was rough on him, though. He had an opponent’s last 76,000 at risk preflop holding AcQs to the opponent’s KhQh. Cajelais had the opponent covered, but just barely. A king-high flop left him second best and Cajelais never improved. He shipped 76,000 across the table and was left with just 16,000. That’s good for two big blinds when cards go back in the air in about 10 minutes.

Erik Cajelais – 16,000

Event 2: First-Timers Cory Waaland and Mark Fink

$365 Turbo No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)

Level 3: 75/150

Seven-time Circuit gold ring winner Cory Waaland

Cory Waaland and Mark Fink are far from new to the World Series of Poker Circuit. Together, they account for 11 gold ring wins and more than $680,000 in Circuit earnings. While the Circuit grind is old hat to them, they are new faces to Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood.

Four-time Circuit gold ring winner Mark Fink

The pair arrived in town earlier in the week in search of additional jewlery and now find themselves sharing a table in the $365 Turbo. The first-timers have spoken well of the property, and they’re looking some beginner’s luck of different sorts here in Event 2.
