Event 6: Day 2 Ready to Roll

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 15: 1,500/3,000 with 500 Ante
Players Remaining: 143 of 807

Nicholas Mahabee (Miami, FL)

There’s a little more business to settle before the Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open” takes a break for the Thanksgiving holiday. Event 6 returns this afternoon after four starting flights and they will play until we have a new champion.

The $570 buy-in tournament drew 807 entrants in four flights over two days to easily beat the $250,000 Guarantee and putting more than $400,000 in the prize pool. Of those 807 starters, only 143 are still in the game with a chance at the title.

Two-time SHRP champion Nicholas Mahabee bagged the early lead in Flight A and no one was able to catch over the next three. He’s joined by Seminole Hard Rock Poker team members Mukul Pahuja, Darryll Fish, Jessica Dawley, and Michael Laake as well as Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador Wally Maddah.

The final 81 players will earn a piece of the prize pool with a min-cash taking home $1,009 and the champ earning nearly $93,000. We expect the money bubble to hit shortly after the first break and quickly play down from there.

We will also resume our Poker Night in America live streaming schedule with featured tables from Event 6 along with the final table.

They will get back underway at 1pm and we will be here from start to finish.

Top ten returning stacks:

Nicholas Mahabee – 464,000 (155 bb)
Gaston Miculitzki – 375,000 (125 bb)
Evan Teitelbaum – 385,500 (129 bb)
David Maslowski – 304,500 (102 bb)
Raminder Singh – 282,500 (94 bb)
Derek Ecenarro – 255,500 (85 bb)
Rob Cowen – 254,500 (85 bb)
Edgar Varas – 252,000 (84 bb)
Marco Rodriguez – 249,000 (83 bb)
Tom Nguyen – 244,000 (81 bb)

Event 6: Nicholas Mahabee Leads After Day 1

Players Remaining: 143 of 807

The starting flights are complete in the $570 Deep Stack, and the Day 2 field is set.

As expected, the “D” starting flight was the largest of the four, drawing a crowd of 272 entries. That brought the total field to an impressive 807 across all flights, smashing the guarantee and putting a prizepool of more than $400,000 up for grabs.

David Maslowski bagged up the biggest stack from Day 1D, finishing the night with 304,500 chips. That’s only good enough for fourth place overall, though, as he and everyone else are far in trail of Day 1A chip leader Nicholas Mahabee and his monster stack of 464,000. Mahabee is already a two-time winner in this building, with one of those victories coming in another big re-entry event earlier this year, and he’s put himself in a fine position once again this time around.

Here’s the rest of the overnight top five:

1: Nicholas Mahabee – 464,000
2: Gaston Miculitzki – 375,000
3: Evan Teitelbaum – 358,500
4: David Maslowski – 304,500
5: Raminder Singh – 282,500

Among the long list of notables who’ve punched their Day 2 tickets are five members of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Team: Wally Maddah (185,000), Darryll Fish (98,500), Jessica Dawley (78,000), Michael Laake (77,500), and Mukul Pahuja (27,500).

The full Day 2 chip counts and seat draw are available in the posts preceding this one.

A total of 143 players advanced, and they’ll return Wednesday to play for the trophy and the top prize of more than $90,000. Cards go in the air at 1:00 PM, and action will continue until a winner is determined (which will likely be early on Thanksgiving morning). Blinds will be 1,500/3,000 with a 500 ante when play resumes, putting the average stack just under 40 big blinds.

Event 6 Flight D: Five More Hands

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 14: 1,200/2,400 with 400 Ante
Players Remaining: 63 of 272

The clock was paused with 10 minutes left in the level, as the end of the night draws near. Each table will play five more hands, after which the survivors will bag up their chips for the overnight soak.

A recap of the day’s action will be posted shortly, along with the Day 2 seat draw and chip counts.

Event 6 Flight D: Kyle Julius vs. Jesus Cabrera

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 14: 1,200/2,400 with 400 Ante
Players Remaining: 63 of 272

There are far more players remaining at this point in the night than in the previous flights, and there are therefore quite a few more short stacks left in the room. One of those is Kyle Julius, and he just got himself a bit shorter.

It was just a small pot that began with Julius opening to 5,000 under the gun. Jesus Cabrera three-bet to 12,000 on the button, and Julius counted down the 36,000 chips he had left in front of him before calling the remainder.

The flop was 9h6s4s. Julius checked, Cabrera continued for 15,000, and Julius deliberated only briefly before surrendering his cards into the muck.

“You had an ace, didn’t you?” Cabrera asked. Julius nodded. “It was probably coming still,” Cabrera said, flashing KsKc as the dealer pushed him the pot.

Jesus Cabrera – 130,000 (65 bb)
Kyle Julius – 29,000 (15 bb)

Event 6 Flight D: Mukul Pahuja One-Outs a Triple-Up

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 12: 800/1,600 with 200 Ante
Players Remaining: 81 of 272

Mukul Pahuja
Mukul Pahuja

A player in early position moved all in for 17,100, and the player next to act re-shoved for about 75,000 total. Action froze on Mukul Pahuja in the small blind for about a minute, and he eventually called all in for 21,100 to put himself at risk. When the big blind folded, the cards were turned up.

Player 1: JdTd
Player 2: AhQc
Pahuja: 8s8h

The KdTc5c flop gave the first shove-r the lead with a pair of tens, and the 7d on the turn gave him a bit of extra protection with the only flush draw. The river was the 8c, though, and Pahuja stole the pot away with a set of eights. He nearly tripled up with that one-outer, eliminating the short stack in the process.

Mukul Pahuja – 62,500 (39 bb)

Event 6 Flight D: Omar Diaz More Than Doubles Up

$570 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 11: 600/1,200 with 200 Ante
Players Remaining: 99 of 272

Omar Diaz
Omar Diaz

Omar Diaz limped in under the gun, as did the player next to act, and Mukul Pahuja raised to 5,200 in middle position. From the big blind, Steve Karp three-bet shoved for 15,300 total. Diaz four-bet to 33,000 total in response, and the player behind him quickly folded. Pahuja moved all in with the big stack, though, and Diaz called all in for 62,100 total, putting himself at risk along with Karp.

Diaz: QdQh
Pahuja: AhKh
Karp: AdKs

The Ac8h2d flop left Diaz in bad shape with two to come, and the 3h on the turn was a blank. The Qs river was not, however, and it gave Diaz the big pot with a set of queens. Karp was eliminated, and Pahuja was left relatively short after paying off Diaz’s big double.

Omar Diaz – 143,100 (119 bb)
Mukul Pahuja – 19,000 (16 bb)
Steve Karp – Eliminated

(Hollywood, FL) – The $50,000 High Roller event was a late edition to the 2016 Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open” schedule but it drew a nice group of top players. It had bracelet winners and high roller experts that all battled it out with online specialist Ben “Ben86” Tollerene outlasting them all to earn the title along with $495,228 for one day’s work.

The tournament began with two tables in action, one in the ballroom and one in front of the Poker Night in America cameras for a live stream viewed around the world. The initial feature table lineup had a tough draw that included Jason Mercier, Chance Kornuth, Jason Koon, and Isaac Haxton.

Mercier was the first player eliminated from the tournament when his nut flush draw was no good against Koon’s flopped full house. He took a short breather before jumping back into the action.

Registration closed after the dinner break and the High Roller officially drew 21 entrants to create a prize pool over $1 million with the last four getting paid. There were 12 players remaining when they returned and quickly played down to the final table nine.

It was slow going at the start of the final table but the turbo format soon forced the action for quick eliminations. Mercier dropped out in the sixth place followed by eight-time WSOP bracelet winner Erik Seidel on the money bubble.

Jason Koon followed Seidel out of the door but was able to pick up a cash worth $125,244. UK pro Stephen Chidwick, second on the all-time English cash list, made a stand but fell in third place for $187,866. Sean Winter began the final table with only three big blinds but was able to push his stack higher until he was heads-up for the title.

Tollorene was the dominant force in the late stages of the final table and went into heads-up play with better than a 5-to-1 advantage. The match lasted more than 30 minutes before Winter’s night was through in second place. This was Winter’s second big RRPO score following his $270,000 cash in the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock “Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open” Championship.

Tollorene was the well-deserved High Roller champion after overcoming an incredibly tough field, taking home $495,228 plus the Seminole Hard Rock Poker trophy.
