Championship: Rodriguez Doubles through Drory; Drory Eliminated 59th ($9,855)

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship

Players Remaining: 58 of 1,222
Average Stack: 632,000 (44 big blinds)

Carlo Rodriguez doubles through Joseph Drory
Carlo Rodriguez doubles through Joseph Drory

Joseph Drory opened from early position and the button, small blind and Carlo Rodriguez in the big blind all called. The flop fell Ad9s4s and it checked to Drory. He bet 45,000. The button folded as did the player in the small blind. Rodriguez called and they saw the turn.

Fourth street was the 6s and Rodriguez lead for 140,000. After a bit of thought, Drory shoved having Rodriguez covered. Rodriguez check and re-checked his hole cards before he called.

Rodriguez: Ts3s for a 10-high flush
Drory: AsQh for top pair with an ace-high flush draw

The river completed with the 3h — a safe card for Rodriguez — and Rodriguez stood in celebration. He earned the full double while Drory was left crippled. Drory busted 59th the very next hand.

Carlo Rodriguez – 840,000 (70 bb)
Joseph Drory – Eliminated in 59th place ($9,855)

Championship: Marvin Rettenmaier Eliminated 69th ($7,791)

Marvin Rettenmaier (Eliminated 69th, $7,791)
Marvin Rettenmaier (Eliminated 69th, $7,791)

Marvin Rettenmaier began the day as one of the shortstacks and it took him less than a level to put his chips at risk. He shoved from early position and Enos Smith called from his direct left. It folded around and Rettenmaier was at risk against Smith.

Smith: 8s8d
Rettenmaier: AdQs

The board fell KhJh3cJc5s and Rettenmaier never improved. He busted with 69th earning $7,791 while Smith scooped his chips.

Enos Smith – 1,325,000 (110 bb)
Marvin Rettenmaier – Eliminated in 69th place ($7,791)

Championship: Sheddy Sent Out

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship

Andrzej Rogowski (Chicago, IL)
Andrzej Rogowski (Chicago, IL)

Sheddy Siddiqui was the Day 3 leading member of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker team but he ran into early bad luck.

He was heads up with Andrzej Rogowski to the Kd6h2c flop when four bets got all the chips in the middle. Siddiqui’s top pair KhQh was drawing super-thin against Rogowski’s flopped set 2h2d, then drawing dead after the 3c turn.

Not the result he wanted and the local favorite picked up $7,791 for his 70th place finish.

Andrzej Rogowski – 1,100,000 (92 bb)
Sheddy Siddiqui – Eliminated in 70th place ($7,791)

Championship: Banks Doubles Brown, Young Doubles Banks

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship
Level 21: 6,000/12,000 with a 2,000 ante
Players Remaining: 73 of 1,222
Average Stack: 502,000 (41 big blinds)

Robert Brown, who began the restart with 126,000 chips, got the last of his shortstack all-in holding Ah9h against the AcQc of Robert Banks. Brown was in a world of hurt, but the runout fell 8d3h2h6s9d improving to a pair on the river and earning him the full double through Banks.

Like Brown, Banks also doubled on the very next hand. Justin Young was caught “with his hand in the cookie jar” and his Qs9s was no good against Banks’ Ad7c.

Robert Banks (Seat 2) doubles through Justin Young (Seat 1)
Robert Banks (Seat 2) doubles through Justin Young (Seat 1)

Robert Brown – 275,000 (22 bb)
Robert Banks – 220,000 (18 bb)

Enos Smith waits for a call from Rob Kuhn
Enos Smith waits for a call from Rob Kuhn

With the board reading Qd7c6s9dAh, Rob Kuhn was facing an all-in from Enos Smith for his last 390,000.

He thought and talked and couldn’t get a single reaction from Smith. Kuhn eventually tossed in the calling chips with top pair QsJc but it was no good when Smith tabled his turned set with 9s9h for a full, early double up.

Enos Smith – 1,250,000 (104 bb)
Rob Kuhn – 920,000 (77 bb)

Andrey Plotnikov
Andrey Plotnikov returns with the Day 3 chip lead

The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship drew 1,222 entrants but only 74 are still around with a chance to put their name on the WPT Champions Cup. It will be a long day but we should have the final table six before the night is through.

Several players took their time on top of the chip counts on Day 2 but it’s Andrey Plotnikov who returns to Day 3 with the chip lead. He’ll restart the Championship with almost 1.8 million with Brian Yoon his closest competitor with 1.5 million.

We have five Seminole Hard Rock Poker team members still alive for the title. Sheddy Siddiqui leads the five with Mukul Pahuja, Michael Laake, John Racener, and Stewart Newman also in contention.

The Championship switches up to 90-minute levels giving them plenty of room to maneuver with the average stack hovering around 40 big blinds. It will be a test of skill for players to make it through the long day and book their seat at the WPT final table.

Players are taking their seats, unbagging their chips, and cards will soon be in the air.

Top ten returning stacks:

Andrey Plotnikov – 1,793,000 (149 bb)
Brian Yoon – 1,468,000 (122 bb)
Justin Young – 1,466,000 (122 bb)
