SHRP SHOWDOWN FINAL RESULTS – EVENT 7

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown
Event 7:  $250 Deep Stack Pot Limit Omaha
March 31 – April 2, 2014

Entries: 80
Prize Pool: $16,800

Mohammad Arani
1st Place

RECAP
Event 7, the $250 Deep Stack Pot Limit Omaha Re-Entry, drew 80 entries on Wednesday at noon. Nearly 15 hours later, only one was left standing. You wouldn’t know it by looking at his career tournament results (which includes a $220,626 score at the Card Player Poker Tour Choctaw Main Event), but Mohammad Arani usually prefers to stay away from the tournament scene.

“I play cash games mostly and only at the good stops do I play tournaments,” he told us after his win in Event 7. What makes the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown a good stop in Arani’s opinion? “Florida weather is great, the girls are hot, and the food is good,” he told us, and nobody is going to disagree with him.

Arani began the final table fourth in chips and it was no easy task to outlast the rest. “When I got to the final table, I had about average stack. Things went kind of slow, but then when it got four-handed I really picked it up.” With the win in his back pocket, Arani likes what it will do for his game for the rest of the series. “It’s great motivation, and a great boost for the Main (Event) here. I can play a lot more relaxed and at ease.”

Mohammad Arani raises on the button,  Daniel Martinez Paz three-bets all in from the big blind for about 180,000, and Arani calls.

Arani: QdQs8d2s
Martinez Paz: QhTs9c8s

The flop runs out 9s5s4d, giving both player a flush draw. Arani’s queens are still best, as is his flush draw. The 6d turn gives Martinez Paz a straight draw as well, but the 3c river is no help, ending his run with a runner-up finish.
