Cards got in the air for Day 1A for Event 6 ($125 no-limit hold’em – $150,000 guaranteed) at 1 p.m. ET. This is the first of nine starting flights and the first of three taking place on Monday. Day 1B begins at 3 p.m. and Day 1C begins at 7 p.m. We will bring you live updates throughout the day until the final flight ends just before 3 a.m.
Registration in this first flight is open through the end of Level 4. Players may re-enter while the registration period remains open, and they may also re-enter on any subsequent starting flight.
Players begin with 10,000 in chips and the blinds begin at 25-50 for the first 30-minute level. There will be a 15-minute break every four levels. The field will play 14 levels before the end of the Day 1A starting flight. Shuffle up and deal!
Day 2 of Event 1 ($350 No-Limit Hold’em) came to an end with 19 players remaining — just one player away from the final two tables. They bagged and tagged their chips, and will return to action tomorrow (Monday) to play down to a winner.
That winner will receive a first prize of $138,952.
The remaining 19 players are all guaranteed at least $5,392, and the nine final tablists will be guaranteed at least $12,095.
The field was steadily — and quickly — shrinking all day long. Even the Money Bubble was quick. When the clock was stopped to begin hand-for-hand play, somebody busted during a hand in progress. That technically burst the bubble, and just when all the players were expecting to begin hand-for-hand play, they learned that they were already in the money.
There were a lot of lead changes throughout the day, and nobody seemed to hold onto the chip lead for long.
Tomorrow the blinds will begin at 50,000-100,000 and a 15,000 ante. Here are the official end-of-Day 2 chip counts:
1. Kevin Ho – 7,695,000 (76 bb) 2. Kane Kalas – 6,690,000 (66 bb) 3. Zack Goodman – 6,475,000 (64 bb) 4. Derek Buonano – 5,800,000 (58 bb) 5. David Diaz – 5,775,000 (57 bb) 6. Jaime Campos – 5,460,000 (54 bb) 7. Alcides Gomez – 5,285,000 (52 bb) 8. Steven McKoy – 4,075,000 (40 bb) 9. Michael Ortiz – 3,950,000 (39 bb) 10. Daniel Navarrete – 2,865,000 (28 bb) 11. Josée Thauvette – 2,500,000 (25 bb) 12. Jeff Yeh – 2,340,000 (23 bb) 13. Mike Chiappetta – 1,940,000 (19 bb) 14. Chad Eveslage – 1,750,000 (17 bb) 15. Michael Tait – 1,530,000 (15 bb) 16. Tim Myers – 1,230,000 (12 bb) 17. Mike Beasley – 1,100,000 (11 bb) 18. John Liu – 1,070,000 (10 bb) 19. Harold Lam – 775,000 (7 bb)
Of the final 19 players, we counted six of them as the tournament chipleader at some point today — Kevin Ho, Mike Chiappetta, David Diaz, Michael Ortiz, Derek Buonano, and Jaime Campos. But none of them held the top spot for long.
Near the bottom of the chip counts, there were several players who were keeping their heads just above water, but they survived in that state for a long time — including Michael Tait, Mike Beasley, and John Liu. They are all hoping to catch some momentum tomorrow.
Return to SeminoleHardRockPokerOpen.com tomorrow (Monday) for continuing coverage of Event 1 ($350 No-Limit Hold’em) as they battle for the final table and play down to a winner.
Kevin Ho finished Day 2 with nearly 7.7 million in chips, taking the lead into Day 3.
While Event 1 busted hundreds of players on Sunday, August 11 at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open there was a lot of other poker action taking place throughout the ballroom complex at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Here is a quick look at what took place in the four other preliminary events that ran on Sunday.
Event 2 ($1,100 no-limit hold’em – $75,000 guaranteed) attracted a field of 98 players to create a prize pool worth $98,000. This tournament attracted the most notables in the room today with pros like Adam Levy, Tony Ruberto, Chino Rheem, and Matt Giannetti participating. None of them advanced to Day 2 as one of the 11 survivors remaining. The money bubble will burst tomorrow when nine remain and it should happen pretty soon after they return at 1 p.m. ET. Chris Karambinis will be the chip leader when cards get into the air with a stack worth 244,000.
Event 3 ($240 turbo no-limit hold’em – $25,000 guaranteed) lived up to its name and finished quickly on Sunday. The final eight players made the end even faster when they decided to chop the remaining prize pool eight ways after the elimination of Nancy Birnbaum in ninth place. The eight players took home $4,927 and Stephen Cardarelli was named the champion of the tournament. The tournament attracted a total field of 249 players and created a prize pool just under $50,000.
Event 4 ($240 Seven-Card Stud – $5,000 guaranteed) attracted a field of 41 players and 14 of them decided to stop playing at 11 p.m. on Sunday so they could return at 3 p.m. on Monday to play down to a champion. Ylon Schwartz is among the survivors and the chip leader going into Day 2 is Peter Cleven with 66,500. The top five will make the money and get a piece of the prize pool worth $8,200.
Event 5 ($240 bounty no-limit hold’em – $20,000 guaranteed) was the straggler tonight, ending at 3 a.m. The 10 survivors will return at 3 p.m. on Monday and play down to a champion. The money bubble burst when 27 players remained tonight, and then the players started to stake their claim to the $25,200 prize pool. Alexis Carrasquillo is the chip leader with 390,000.
Event 5 ($240 bounty no-limit hold’em) has come to a close with the final 10 players remaining from an initial field of 252. They will return at 3 p.m. ET on Monday and play down to a champion. Here is a look at the chip stacks they will come back to when play starts back up.
1: Alexis Carrasquillo – 390,000 2: Christopher Carey – 323,500 3: Benito Prats – 195,000 4: Richard Hopple – 148,000 5: Fernando Alfonso – 133,000 6: Francis Garcia – 112,000 7: Marvin Karlins – 90,500 8: Abbey Daniels – 77,000 9: Gregor Davis – 72,000 10: Celena Holloway – 57,500
Time has expired on Day 1 for Event 2 ($1,100 no-limit hold’em) and there are 11 players remaining from the 98 that entered. They will return at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 12 and play down to a champion. Here is a look at the chip stacks when they return.
1: Chris Karambinis – 244,000 2: Ben Stark – 207,900 3: Christopher Mitchell – 138,800 4: George Dobfan – 116,800 5: Alain Rodriguez – 114,400 6: Francesco Pisani – 112,700 7: Jeff Coutroulis – 72,500 8: Michael Wakefield – 60,800 9: Yaroslav Nakonechnyy – 50,000 10: Tony Herring – 32,100 11: Moe Musa – 23,900
There are 20 players remaining with 20 minutes left in Day 2 of Event 1 ($350 No-Limit Hold’em). The average chip stack is about 3.4 million, which is worth about 37 big blinds.
Kevin Ho leads the field late with nearly seven million, but there are several players he’ll need to hold off to finish with the end-of-day chip lead.
Here’s a look at the top of the leaderboard late in the last level of the day:
1. Kevin Ho – 6,970,000 (77 bb) 2. Zack Goodman – 5,725,000 (63 bb) 3. Mike Chiappetta – 5,500,000 (61 bb) 4. Derek Buonano – 4,900,000 (54 bb) 5. Kane Kalas – 4,650,000 (51 bb)
One of the more interesting stories since the money bubble has been Mike Beasley, who was cut short in an aces-vs.-queens situation, but has held tough since then.
Beasley has pointed out that when he won the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em event at the 2010 Borgata Winter Open, he struggled with fewer than 15 big blinds all the way from 41 players remaining to reach the final three. Beasley says that if he did it once, he can do it again.
Beasley has been on a similar trajectory today, and he’s hoping that this tournament has a similar conclusion for him.
The final 14 players remaining from the initial field of 41 in Event 4 ($240 Seven-Card Stud) have chosen to halt play and return on Monday, August 12 at 3 p.m. The money bubble will burst when five remain. Here is a look at the chips counts when the field takes their seats again.
1: Peter Cleven – 66,500 2: Kevin Painter – 47,400 3: Debra Jorgensen – 39,800 4: Sergio Corominas – 34,700 5: Roberto Marin – 34,400 6: Jeremy Jennings – 33,800 7: Ylon Schwartz – 18,700 8: Christian Ivens – 14,400 9: Barbara Gierum – 13,400 10: Jordan Chizick – 9,300 11: Al Green – 6,200 12: Stuart Breakstone – 6,100 13: David Prager – 5,400 14: Dan D’Eugenio – 4,600
