Robyn Marshman

Robyn Marshman won the $300 Ladies No Limit Hold’em in the early hours of Thursday morning. She bested a field of 38 entries to win $3,972, but she feels like she had a little help from above.

During a recent tournament cash, Marshman found out that one of her good friends had passed away. She donated all of the funds she earned in the cash to pay for her fallen friend’s funeral. Since then, Marshman has noticed some oddities that makes her think he might be helping out with some run good from the afterlife.

“There’s some crazy stuff,” said Marshman. “His favorite number was 13 and except for the final table, every seat I’ve had in this whole series has either been one or three. When I was moved here, it was the first time I was in a different sea. I don’t know what that means. I guess he fell asleep on me. I don’t know.”

After adding a win to her tournament resume, Marshman dedicated the victory to him.

“I’m still like with him right now,” said Marshman. “This is for him. I feel like he is with me right now.”

Even though she didn’t get seat one or three for the final table, Marshman used a little bit of luck to overcome a serious chip deficit at the final table. She came into the final table as the short stack and was able to survive long enough to get into the top five spots and make the money.

Even once in the money she was still short and was all in for six big blinds four-handed. She doubled through Jacquelyn Scott with ace-six against king-queen and just continued to amass chips until she had all of them in play.

“It’s amazing,” said Marshman of her win. I was really short. I had like five big blinds and then the next thing I know, I kept knocking out people and built this big stack. We just had like an hour-long heads-up match. It was really tough.”

Marshman defeated Esther Foley heads-up. Over the hour long heads-up match, the chips swung a couple different ways over several small pots without showdown. Foley eventually flopped top pair against Marshman’s bottom set and that was all she wrote.

“I was very patient and took my time and just played the table as well as my cards,” said Marshman. “I got the cards at the right moment.”

Along with the prize money, Marshman took home her first Hard Rock trophy and gets a seat into a freeroll with a $10,000 WPT Finale seat and $3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown seat at stake for the top two spots.

“I’m so excited about that,” said Marshman about her chances at satelliting into a big buy-in WPT event. “And I got a trophy. Yay.”

Marshman plays more than just ladies events and this won’t be the last time she’s spotted in the Hard Rock tournament area. She’s already got a cash under her belt in the first event of the series and plans on playing the $570 no limit hold’em this weekend.

When asked if she plays a lot of poker, her answer was pretty simple.

“Maybe I do,” said Marshman. “Actually, Yes. Yes, I do.”
