Gunnar Rabe

Just after the levels switched and the blinds were raised, the bubble burst in Day 1B and the final 28 players moved on to Day 2. The group of 28 was led by Gunnar Rabe.

Rabe bagged the chip lead in the second starting flight and finished the day with 410,000. Roy Paulena (370,000), Trung Pham (328,000) and Mark Rose (267,000) round out the top four chip stacks from the flight.

Raminder Singh survived the flight, but will not take any of the chips he amassed in the later of the two flights today because he bagged up 291,000 in Day 1A. Singh finished Day 1B with 191,000, but those chips will come out of play and Singh pocketed $2,500 in cash. For each additional flight that he bags, he will receive another $2,500. He’s the first player to accomplish the mulit-bag in this event.

Other notables to survive the second flight include Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Ambassador Wally Maddah (112,000) and SHRP regular Marcus Stein (125,000).

Level 16: 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 ante
Players Remaining: 28 of 285

David Prociak moves all in from middle position for 55,000 and Angel Torres calls from the hijack. The big blind tanks for a couple minutes before folding.

While the big blind was in the tank, a player at another table is eliminated, creating the money bubble.

Prociak shows QdQc and is flipping with Torres’ AcKd.

“I can’t believe I’m going to bubble this thing,” says Prociak.

The flop is Ad7d6h and Prociak gets up from the table and grabs his backpack. Torres takes the lead with top pair and any runout that doesn’t involve a queen sends Prociak home and the final 28 move on to Day 2.

The turn is the Js and the river is the 2s. Torres wins the pot and the clock is stopped with 27:12 remaining in level 16.

Angel Torres – 166,000
David Prociak – Eliminated

Raminder Singh

A player limps in from early position and a player in middle position raises to 20,000. Raminder Singh moves all in for 54,000 from the cutoff and action folds back to the original raiser, who calls.

“Show me queens,” says Singh, tabling KsKd.

The hijack obliges and shows him QcQh. The board runs out AsTs9hTcTh and Singh doubles up with a bigger full house. He’s the last player remaining in the flight who bagged up in Day 1B. If he survives another few eliminations, he’ll become the first player in the event to earn the $2,500 for bagging in two flights.

Raminder Singh – 131,000

Event 1 Day 1B: Wally Maddah Scores a Knockout

Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Ambassador Wally Maddah

A player in middle position moves all in for about 30,000 and Wally Maddah moves all in from the small blind for about 55,000. Everybody else gets out of the way and the cards are tabled.

Maddah tables AhKc and is flipping with his opponent’s JsJc.

The player at risk asks the dealer to ‘Keep it low,’ but the dealer doesn’t cooperate and spreads a flop of Ks9h4h.

Maddah flops top pair to take the lead. The 3c on the turn and the 8d on the river don’t change anything and the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Ambassador scores a knockout. With just seven more eliminations, the remaining players will bag up for the night.

In five minutes, at the end of the level, the remaining players will take a 10-minute break.

Wally Maddah – 90,000

Rose mucks his hand and wins the pot. He extends his chip lead over the rest of the field. With presumably several more levels left before they wrap up for the night, Rose already has more chips than Miguel Martinez, who finished Day 1A with 355,000 and the chip lead.

$500,000 Guaranteed
Level 13: 1,500/3,000 with a 500 ante

With the start of level 13, late registration and re-entry is closed for Day 1B. There are 285 entries in the second of the eight starting flights, which brings the total field size to 612 entries through two flights.

There is $183,600 in the prizepool thus far and the overall event is on pace to shatter the $500,000 guarantee.

Day 1B will play until there are 28 players remaining, at which point, they will bag up for the day. If they finish earlier than Day 1A did, that will become the baseline for where in the structure to start Day 2.

It is a battle of the blinds on a flop of Ad6d4d. Trung Pham checks from the small blind and David Prociak bets 2,300 from the big blind. Pham calls.

The turn is the Tc and Pham checks again. Prociak bets 6,400 and Pham check-raises to 18,000 and Prociak folds. Pham mucks his hand and wins the pot.

Pham has chipped up nicely through the first 12 levels and is one of the bigger stacks in the tournament. He’s no stranger to success in massive re-entry fields. He bested a field of 2,384 a couple weeks ago in Oklahoma to win $105,500 and a WSOP Circuit ring.

The players are taking a 15-minute break and registration will close when cards get back in the air.

Trung Pham – 168,000
David Prociak – 66,000

John Binns

John Binns took home the first trophy of the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open on Wednesday night. He topped a 74-entry field in the $300 Omaha 8-or-Better event, earning $6,605 in the process.

It’s Binns’ first trophy from the Seminole Hard Rock, but he’s won several other events from around the country and is no stranger to poker.

The Cape Coral resident travels around the country playing poker full-time after retiring from his business career. He’s been playing poker for longer than most people have been alive and built his foundation for this game in his early days of playing.

“Years and years ago back in the ’70s when we played this, we used to play a game called ‘Manny, Mo and Jack,'” said Binns after the win. “You could use one, two or three cards in your hand. Yeah, I’ve played this game since the ’70s.

When the field redrew to the unofficial final table with 10 players remaining, Binns was one of the shortest stacks at the table. With blinds of 3,000/5,000 and 5,000/10,000 limits, Binns only had just a tad over three big bets with 32,000.

By the time, there were five players remaining, however, Binns held a massive chip lead that he never let go. He eliminated Jason Lopesilvero in third and defeated Stephen Reid heads-up to earn the title.

“I got on a real good run,” said Binns. “I got some real good cards and I got some action. I just doubled up and I doubled up and I doubled up again.”

Final Results:

1st: John Binns – $6,605
2nd: Stephen Reid – $3,585
3rd: Jason Lopesilvero – $2,264
4th: Michael Moed – $1,698
5th: David Carvara – $1,321
6th: MIchael Guardino – $1,132
7th: Perry Werber – $944
8th: John Reese – $755
9th: Marty Raschkovan – $566

John Binns vs. Stephen Reib

After the start of the new level, Jason Lopesilvero was eliminated in third place by John Binns. Lopesilvero earned $2,264 and Binns begins heads-up play against Stephen Reid with a massive chip lead.

The runner-up will earn $3,585, but the winner takes home $6,605 and the trophy.

Here are the approximate chip counts at the start of heads-up play:

John Binns – 600,000
Stephen Reid – 110,000

Event 2: Jason Lopesilvero Doubles Through John Binns

$360 Omaha 8 or Better
Level 18: 5,000/10,000 Blinds, 10,000/20,000 Limits

Over the course of the first 20 minutes of the level, David Carvara and Michael Moed were eliminated in fifth and fourth, respectively. Carvara took home $1,321 and Moed earned $1,698, while Binns added on to his chip lead.

With three players remaining, Jason Lopesilvero got his last 50,000 into the middle preflop on the button against Binns in the small blind.

Lopesilvero showed AcAd2c5d and is up against Binns’ As4d5hTc. The board runs out JhTc9c6sJs and Lopesilvero doubles up with aces up just before the end of the level.

Jason Lopesilvero – 110,000
John Binns – 500,000
