RECAP
Elissa Halbreich (Fort Lauderdale, FL) and Yuleisys Torres (Hialeah, FL) were each looking for their first career trophies and they each got one.
Halbreich and Torres were part of a four way chop that had each of them take home some hardware.
“It’s awesome, this is my first trophy,” said Halbreich who took home the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown trophy along with $2,830.
Torres earned the same payday and got the High Heels Poker Tour trophy, a bonus to this event.
“It’s nice to have a trophy, it’s my first one,” said Torres.
The other two players who agreed to the deal were Tracy Rack (Plantation, FL) and Tonia Sledd (Key Largo, FL) who each earned $1,092.
The event featured a quality of field of 40 entries that produced a prize pool of $8,400.
After the bubble broke with the elimination of Sheila (Olsen) Stimson (Wilmington, NC), the final five were in the money with Cherie Thoman (McLean, VA) holding the chip lead. But after shipping three double-ups, including two to Torres, Stimson eventually went out in 5th place for $756.
Torres was down to 29k, but doubled-up three times, including once with pocket Kings vs Sledd (KJ) to jump up to 410k, more than half the chips in play before the final four made the deal.
“This was a tough field,” said Halbreich, who earned her first career live recorded cash. “There were at least four pros that I recognized.”
Halbreich highlighted Marsha Wolak (Fort Lauderdale, FL), the 2011 WSOP women’s bracelet winner, who just missed the final table.
