2014 SHRPO Live Updates

Event 16: The Slow Grind

$2,200 Buy-In Six-Max No Limit Hold’em Freeze-Out
Level 2: 50/100

It’s slow going in Event 16 with a little more caution shown by the players as they only have one shot at the tournament. More players are getting massages than are mixing it up in hands at the moment. The player count clicked over 90 at the mid-point of Level 2 with Joe Kuether, John Racener, and Darryll Fish a few of the late arrivals with more big names waiting until later in the game.

Event 15: Chip Counts

$1,650 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold ‘Em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 12: 600/1200/100 Ante

As we head into Level 13, here are the chip counts for the remaining ten players.

Table 1:
Justin Zaki – 67,600
John McDonald – 260,300
Victor Sbrissa – 73,000
Konstantinos Pantaridis – 84,800
Matthew Shepsky – 109,500

Table 2:
Joe Reddick – 127,100
Michael Wang – 69,300
Roman Valerstein – 53,000
Ardit Kurshumi – 114,500
Steele Sutter – 197,900

Event 15: Pantaridis Doubles on Last Hand Before Break

$1,650 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold ‘Em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 12: 600/1200/100 Ante

On the last hand before the break, Konstantinos Pantaridis tangled with the chip leader and got away with it.

After pre-flop betting by Pantaridis and John McDonald, the flop brought out a 6s8h7d board.  McDonald fired away, Pantaridis went all-in and was called.

McDonald 7s5c
Pantaridis AhAc

With top pair and the up-and-down straight draw, McDonald hoped for a card to end Pantaridis’s day but the Ks and 6d would not do it and Pantaridis picked up a much-needed double-up.

Players are now on break headed to Level 13.

Event 15: Wang Doubles Up, Karim Eliminated

$1,650 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold ‘Em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 12: 600/1200/100 Ante

Patience may be wearing thin as Michael Wang decided to take a stab and go over the top all-in to Steele Sutter’s re-raise.  Sutter made the call and the hands were turned up.

Yang: 10c10h
Sutter: AdJh

Wang took an even bigger lead on the Td9c2h flop. Sutter picked up outs on with the 8d on the turn but Wang held on with a harmless 4h on the river. Yang doubled to around 75k.

In the meantime, Zo Karim took his final stand but couldn’t hang on and is out of this Event 15 in 11th Place leaving ten players still standing for the $38,609 first place prize.

Event 15: Slow Sledding

$1,650 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold ‘Em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 12: 600/1200 100 Ante

The eleven remaining players could be in for a long afternoon.  Only Roman Valerstein and Zo Karim started under 30,000 in chips and with Valerstein essentially doubling up a short time ago, the blinds won’t be putting much pressure on most of these players anytime soon.

Chip leader John McDonald has done his job to start picking up two of the biggest hands to start the afternoon and pushing his stack to nearly 300,000 to open up his lead.

Event 16: Small Field, Big Names

$2,200 Buy-In Six-Max No Limit Hold’em Freeze-Out
Level 1: 25/50

There were 50 entrants showing in the information board shortly after the start of play and they continue to join at regular intervals. Some of the early starters include Angel Vu, Andrew Graham, Jared Jaffee, former November Niner John Dolan, and Daniel Weinman fresh off his win in the $2,200 Buy-In Eight Game Mix Event 12.

Event 15: Cards In The Air

$1,650 Eight-Handed No Limit Hold ‘Em (Single Re-Entry)
Level 11: 500/1000/100 Ante

And we are underway in Event 15!  Eleven players remain for this Eight-Handed title.  Adding more drama is the fact that only eight players will cash the event.   With the money bubble and final table approaching, it should be an exciting afternoon here are the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open – Hollywood, FL!

RECAP
Event 13 blasted past its $30K guarantee with 245 entries, creating a prize pool of more than double the guarantee at $73,500. And when the dust settled after almost 15 hours of battling, with play ending just around 3am, Constantin Liapis was declared the champion of the Event 13 Big Stack Six-Max No Limit Hold’em tournament.

Liapis is a recreational player who likes to play whenever he has spare time away from the restaurant he owns in Georgia. His tournament journey started off badly as he busted after only his third hand. He debated whether he should re-enter, and thankfully his son Ilias convinced him that he should. Ilias Liapis placed 3rd in the previous night’s Event 11: $560 Double Black Chip Bounty No Limit Hold’em tournament. Ilias was Constantin’s secret weapon during his run here in Event 13, rooting on and supporting his dad the entire time. Liapis says that he had good hands and good fortune throughout the tournament, and will play more events through the rest of the SHRPO to hopefully continue his good run.

Here are some other notables who cashed in Event 13:

  • Our 2nd place finisher John Robertson has over $430K in earnings with poker tournament results dating back to 2000.
  • Third place finisher Darryll Fish is a well known and respected professional poker player with over $1.3 Million in career poker tournament earnings.
  • Today’s 6th place finisher Abbey Daniels placed 4th in the 2011 WPT $10K Championship Main Event right here at the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Poker Showdown, good for $286K.
  • Stuart Paterson, who placed 15th in today’s event, earned 7th place out of 2,157 entries last week in Event 5 $150 NLH (Re-entry) of the SHRPO earning over $17K. He has lifetime poker tournament earnings of $513K.
