Esther Taylor from Havertown, Pennsylvannia was declared the winner of Event 41 at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open after a chop was decided upon between the final two players. Taylor was the chip leader at the time, so she took home $59,825 along with the guitar pick trophy.

Taylor is a seasoned tournament pro with more than $2 million in career tournament earnings, but this is her first tournament title here at SHRPO. We caught up with her after the final table to get her thoughts about the tournament win.

“I’m happy to win, it’s always nice to win a trophy you know,” said Taylor. She continued, “I can take it home to my daughter, she’ll love it, but she has a billion [softball] trophies,” said Taylor.

“It was tough, it was tough, it wasn’t easy. There were a lot of good players, and the structure was very deep so it took a long time. Every one was kind of grinding, and just re-doubling up,” said Taylor when she was asked about her journey through the final day of the tournament.

When she was asked what keeps bringing her back to the Seminole Hard Rock for tournament series she said, “It’s such a simple flight to get here, although I drove for the first time this time. I love all you guys on the staff, and just how well the tournaments are run – and you know I play a lot of mixed games and this is one of few spots where they offer a lot of different games.”

Event 39 of the 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open was the $1,100 Big 4 No-Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry). The tournament drew 563 entries, generating a prize pool of $563,000. Taking it down was Ivan Ruban, winning outright for $107,125.

“It feels good to win this tournament,” said Ruban afterward. “I hope to do it again soon.”

Ruban finished Day 1 on top of the chip counts by a healthy margin of 35 big blinds, leading the 17 players who returned on Day 2. He coasted to the final table, and once there stayed out of the way for the most part as players began to fall.

With four players remaining, Ruban picked up pocket aces in back-to-back hands, doubling up into a commanding chip lead thanks to a set-over-set showdown. He then added to it by eliminating Gary Gelman in fourth place moments later.

Ruban began heads-up play against 2013 SHRPO champion Blair Hinkle with nearly a 4:1 chip lead and closed it out after making a full house in a limped pot, earning the outright victory.

Ruban, a native of Moscow, Russia, recently moved to South Florida and has registered several cashes at the Seminole Hard Rock in those few months. This marks his second-largest live career tournament score and pushes him past the $420,000 mark in total live earnings according to the Hendon Mob poker database.

All the cards except Andrei Mitsiuk’s were out on the table, and he was all in from the big blind, and Esther Taylor had him covered holding on the cutoff.

The turn card was the , the river card was the , and King finished with a spade flush to win the pot — and the $25,500 Big 4 High Roller — with a seven-high flush.

Sean Winter finished as the runner-up, earning $505,700.
