2022 SHRPO Champion Sergio Aido Surrounded by Friends

The 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open featured 45 primary events over 14 days that drew massive fields and set some records. Here are the raw numbers:

Primary Event:  45
Entries:  20,045
Guarantees:  $9,000,000
Prize Pools: $19,879,286

We kicked the series off by breaking records and packing the Grand Ballroom with players the first weekend. Event 1 was a $400 Deep Stack tournament with a $1,000,000 guarantee that brought out an incredible field of 7,703 entries for a prize pool of over $2.5 million. Both numbers were good enough for the biggest tournament field in state history and the top prize pool for a non-Championship/non-High Roller field.

Top fields:

2022 SHRPO Event 1 – 7,703 entries
2021 RRPO Event 1 – 6,196 entries
2016 RRPO Event 1 – 5,018 entries
2022 LHPO Event 1 – 4,960 entries
2017 LHPO Event 1 – 4,756 entries

On a historical note, the series pushed us over another big milestone. Running 43 major series since the 2011 Poker Showdown, we have now awarded more than $400 million in prize money.

Series: 43
Entries: 424,857
Guarantees: $215,213,500
Prize Pools: $400,704,356

The SHRPO Championship headlined the series with a $5,300 buy-in and a $3,00,000 guarantee. It drew 1,110 entries and created a prize pool worth more than $5,000,000. It created a tough final table that was live streamed by Poker Night in America and Spanish pro Sergio Aido defeated Jim Collopy heads-up for the title and $900,100.

The Big 4 also included the $25K High Roller plus the $2,700 and $1,100 Deep Stacks. David Peters, Josh Adcock, and Ivan Ruban all picked up wins on the final day of the series.

We had another first in this series; five female champions over the two-week run, four coming in consecutive tournaments and four during open events. That’s 11% of the primary schedule and a great run.

Sheila O’Connor – $400 Pot-Limit Omaha 8
Mica Lamar – $300 Ladies Event
Donna Stutts – $400 Deep Stack NLH
Jennifer Borsini – $600 Turbo NLH
Esther Taylor – $2,200 Six-Max Pot-Limit Omaha

It was a great series from the first weekend with a record crowd through the final day when ten trophies were awarded. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the series; we appreciate you and hope to see you again soon.

Below you can find links to results and updates for each of the trophy events during the series.

2022 SHRPO Event 43 Winner Ed Sebesta

Event 43 of the 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open was the $10,000 Deep Stack No-Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry). The perennial SHRPO big buy-in closing event drew 111 entries, generating a prize pool of $1,065,600, more than doubling the guarantee.

Emerging victorious was Ed Sebesta, winning outright for $311,915.

“My best result before recently had been for $47,000,” said Sebesta afterward. “Then two months ago I won a high roller at the Aria for $120,000, and now this. I’m definitely on a heater.”

Sebesta was quick to mention how well he ran, but also how making some bold plays were necessary.

“Mostly, I got lucky,” admitted Sebesta, “but I pulled a few plays that most of these guys probably didn’t expect I would make. It was a combination of both. Then when I got heads up, I was on a roll. I had a big stack, applied pressure, and it worked out.”

Sebesta resides in Richmond, Texas, is retired, and plays poker as a hobby. He gives all of his winnings to The Congregation of Holy Cross in honor of his son, who went to the University of Notre Dame and became a Priest, before tragically passing away after a long battle with a brain tumor.
