Shawn Lucas (left) and Andrew Zhu (right)
While counting the big stacks at the break, we noticed Shawn Lucas’s stack had dropped quite a bit, while the player next to him, Andrew Zhu, had nearly 200,000. They told us about a big hand that happened right before the break.
Four players saw a flop of , though one of them dropped out when a non-diamond fell on the turn.
The river card was a diamond, and the betting forced out Lucas, who held . But Zhu and the other player got it all in.
The shorter stack showed for a flush, but Zhu turned over for a flopped full house, kings full of nines, winning a huge pot and eliminating his opponent from Flight E.
And that’s how Zhu picked up enough chips to start this level third in chips.
Andrew Zhu – 199,000 (100 bb) Shawn Lucas – 120,000 (60 bb)
With about 215 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 72,500 (36 big blinds).
This flight will continue playing until there are 98 players left, and the survivors will make the money and advance to Day 2, which begins tomorrow (Sunday) at 1:00 pm. You must bag chips at the end of Day 1 to finish in the money.

The players return from break to begin Level 12, with increased blinds of 1,000-2,000 with a big blind ante of 2,000.
A scan of the field during the break turned up only two players with at least 200K in chips, plus one more knocking on the door, creating an unofficial leaderboard:
With about 240 players remaining, the average chip stack is about 65,000 (33 big blinds).

Hector Pacheco was among the chipleaders at the last break, but he lost a 150K pot against Eric Schaeffer to drop down to about an average stack.
After a flop of , Pacheco checked the small blind, Schaeffer bet 7,000 from the hijack, and Pacheco check-raised to 15,000. Schaeffer called.
The turn card was the , Pacheco bet 22,000, and Schaeffer called.

Manny Minaya
Flight E reached Level 8 and time is running out if you want a piece of the action. They will finish out this level, take a 15-minute break, and registration will close when they return.
We found a few visitors from the other side of the state, over here in South Florida for the action. Manny Minaya, Jason Block, and Jeremy Becker each own Tampa titles and came to Hollywood looking for a SHRPO trophy.

Tamra Piderit
The entry count is nearly 700 with a steady line at the registration desk. With more than an hour to get in the game, there’s plenty of time to join the fun.
We found the Piderit family mixing it up this afternoon. Mother/son duo Tamra and Caleb are taking part in Flight E trying to advance to Day 2 like father Eric did earlier in the series after bagging 170,000 in Flight A. Since he’s already in the bag, Eric is taking part in the $400 Pot Limit Omaha game at a nearby table.

With the huge turnout today, tournament staff sent players on a staggered first break and they all began Level 5 at the same time. The entry count zoomed over 600 and only the start of Level 9 seems like it will slow them down.
The prize pool topped $900,000 and getting it over $1,000,000 is now a lock with Flight F still waiting to start at 6 pm.
