Matt Glantz

Matt Glantz and Taylor Paur were involved in what would become an important pot on the turn of a 6s4d2hAc board. Glantz checked from the small blind, Paur bet 7,500 into a pot of about 15,000, and Glantz called.

The river was the Kh. Glantz checked, Paur moved all in for about 19,000 effective, and Glantz called all in for that amount to put himself at risk.

Paur showed Ad9c, and it was clear his hand was best. Glantz’s Ah7h was exposed as he departed, his chips now in Paur’s stack.

Not to worry, though, for Glantz. He just reappeared in the room with a fresh registration ticket, and he’s suddenly back to 100,000 again.

Taylor Paur – 135,000 (84 bb)
Matt Glantz – 100,000 (63 bb)

Zach Smiley raised to 2,700 under the gun and Scott Blumstein called one spot over. Joey To then three-bet to 10,000 from the hijack and action folded back to Smiley. He called, Blumstein folded, and the flop fell 4c5c10d.

Smiley check-called a bet of 13,000 before action went check-check on the 9c turn. When the 6c completed the board on the river, Smiley led out for 16,000 and To snap-folded.

Zach Smiley – 140,000 (117 bb)
Joey To – 76,000 (63 bb)

On a KcQc8d flop, Jonathan Jaffe checked from the small blind, and Niall Farrell did the same from under the gun. Matt Glantz was on the button, and he bet 5,000. Jaffe called, but Farrell moved all in for 23,300. Glantz folded out of the way, and Jaffe called to put Farrell at risk once again.

Jaffe: QdJs
Farrell: AdKs

Farrell had the goods, and the 5c turn and 3c river secured his double-up.

Niall Farrell – 60,000 (50 bb)
Jonathan Jaffe – 95,000 (79 bb)

Jaffe: Ad10d
Farrell: AsJc

Farrell’s kicker had him well out in front and that’s what made all the difference after the board ran out 4dKsAhQc2s.

Joe McKeehen

Robert Heidorn opened for 2,500 from the cutoff and Giuseppe Iadisernia called from the button. Alex Papazian came along from the small blind and then 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Joe McKeehen three-bet to 13,000 from the big.

Heidorn called, the other two players folded, and it was heads-up action to the flop, which came down Qc10hJh.

Both players checked and the dealer burned and turned the 2d. McKeehen ripped it for 66,600 and Heidorn thought for nearly two minutes before releasing his hand.

Joe McKeehen – 123,000 (123 bb)
Robert Heidorn – 75,000 ( 75 bb)

Taylor von Kriegenbergh opened for 3,500 under the gun and Joseph Cheong called from the hijack. Zach Smiley and reigning World Series of Poker Main Event champ Scott Blumstein came along from the small and big blinds respectively to make it four-way action to the 5h6cKd flop.

Two checks saw von Kriegenbergh continue for 5,500, Cheong called, and Smiley got out of the way. Blumstein also called and then checked the 10c turn. Von Kriegenbergh followed suit and Cheong took the opportunity to bet 12,500.

That did the trick as both his opponents quickly released.

Scott Blumstein – 112,000 (112 bb)
Taylor von Kriegenbergh – 91,000 (91 bb)
Joseph Cheong – 85,000 (85 bb)

There was quite a commotion at one of the nearby tables. Jonathan Little was standing with his hands on his hips, shaking his head as his stack was being counted down in front of him.

The board showed 9c5s5hAs9s, and Nick Petrangelo was kind enough to provide the rest of the details once the dust settled.

According to Petrangelo, he opened the cutoff to 2,000, and Little defended his big blind.

On the flop, Little check-raised from 1,500 to 4,000, and Petrangelo re-raised to 10,400. Little called, then check-called another 23,000 after the turn brought the ace.

The river gave Little and his Ax9x a full house, and he led out for something like 33,000. Petrangelo set him all in for about 75,000 total, and Little called it off with the third nuts.

Petrangelo had one of the two hands that could beat him, though. He showed 5d5c for the nuts, claiming the big pot and eliminating Little during the second level of the day.

Petrangelo finished in fourth place in this event last year, and his encore effort is off to a flying start. He’s the early chip leader.

Nick Petrangelo – 220,000 (220 bb)
Jonathan Little – Eliminated
