Walking the empty tables during the break, it was not tough to find the biggest stack. We only needed to wait to see who came back to it.

It was Zhi Cheng Wu sitting there after the break less than 24 hours after a big run in the Purple Chip Bounty tournament. That final table returned to action on Monday with eight players and Cheng Wu knocked six of them out. Unfortunately for him, the one he didn’t was Schahin Ghiai, his heads-up opponent for the title. Cheng Wu picked up $21,015 for his second-place finish and he’s back at it again.

He is up to 97,000 and we could not find anyone else over 60K. That’s a good four levels for Cheng Wu.

Event 9 players did not have to wait until the break was over to see the tournament reached its $250,000 guarantee. Entry number 159 put the combined total up to 472 and that is good enough to move the prize pool number higher.

For this point forward, the prize pool will continue to climb until registration closes on Flight D at 9:30 pm.

Flight C is cruising into the afternoon with 144 entries leaving the tournament only a few away from hitting the $250,000 guaranteed prize pool. That will happen shortly after the first break and continue climbing until registration closed on Flight D later this evening.

Sweden’s Michael Tureniec is back with us, a regular face in our tournaments over the last few years along with a big Swedish contingent. He solidified his status in our tournaments when he won the WPTDeepStacks Immokalee Main Event we hosted in 2018 (moved due to Hurricane Irma) for $143K. Tureniec recently added another trophy to his case after winning the WPTDeepStacks UK title in October.

Players are taking their time getting to the Seminole Ballroom on a Tuesday morning but the entry count continues to move its way toward the mark needed for the $250,000 guaranteed prize pool.

We are nearing Championship weekend and we are closing out the big prelims with Event 9, the last multi-day tournament before the WPT crew joins the series. The first two flights ran on Monday and drew 313 entries to leave it only 159 away from hitting the $250,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Of those 313, Nick Yunis bagged the biggest stack and it wasn’t really that close. He has 626,000 in a bag for Day 2 on Wednesday with Arthur Boatman in second with 356,000. That is a healthy lead at this point.

Players start with 20,000 deep stacks and all Day 1 levels last 30 minutes with an increase to 40 minutes on Day 2. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at 3:30 pm and Flight C will come to an end after Level 14. Those with chips will bag them for a Day 2 return on Wednesday at noon.

Flight B of Event 9 is through seven levels and they recently reached the eighth to means time is running out to join. The $250,000 guaranteed tournament drew 183 entries in the first flight another 117 so far. With two more flights tomorrow, the tournament should easily hit the magic number tomorrow.
