The entry count is quickly climbing after the first break and we have a number of notables joining including Jason Young, Maria Ho, Cord Garcia, Mukul Pahuja, Olivier Busquet, Ian O’Hara, Sheddy Siddiqui, and Andre Akkari.

Young leads the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year race after winning the WPTDeepStacks Hollywood Main Event in January and he followed that up with a third-place finish in the Coco WSOP Circuit Main Event in February.

The first break is complete and action is back underway in the Championship. The previously mentioned Brent Roberts continues to lead with 111,500 after an early big hand and he is followed by Kevin Garosshen with 105,000.

They are the only two players over 100,000 with David Shmuel next in line with 95,000.

The first break is near and we found another bigger stack in the room. South Florida favorite, along with two-time WSOP bracelet winner/five-time WSOPC ring winner, Loni Harwood was sitting at a (now) short-handed table and she is stacked up to 70,000 in early action.

We have a steady stream of players taking their seats in the Championship including more than a few former WPT Champions.

Not only does Eric Afriat have his name on the WPT Champions Cup, but he put it there for the first time with a win in this event in 2014. He followed that up with a second WPT win at the Borgata last January.

Tyler Patterson flew from the other side of the country for a chance at his second. He won the WPT Jacksonville event in 2015 to go along with his WSOP bracelet win from 2014.

We heard there were two seats suddenly open at Table 29 and sure enough, they were short-handed by the time we got there. It was pretty obvious who did the heavy lifting.

Brent Roberts sat down to a 40,000 starting stack but he is up to 84,400 before the end of the first level. The WPTDeepStacks champ/WSOP Circuit Main Event winner is off to a good start and we will track down the story during the first break.

The Championship draws players from across the globe but we have some South Florida that can fall back on some home cooking. Tristan Wade and Darryll Fish are two of them and both have a lot of success.

Wade owns both a WSOP bracelet and a WSOP Circuit Main Event ring along with $1.7 million in career earnings (and that is just live poker). Darryll Fish won an Aussie Millions Tournament of Champions and WSOP Circuit ring before capturing his first WPT title during the Lucky Hearts Poker Open last January.

All of the preliminaries are complete and it’s time to begin the business of finding our next WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Champion. The Championship kicks off this morning in the Event Center with an expected big, talented group of players from Florida, the country, and the rest of the world. Whoever wins will join a distinguished list of former titleholders since we first hosted this tournament in 2011.

Today is the first of two starting flights with the field combining on Sunday for Day 2. By the end of Day 4, we will have our six final table members who will fly to Las Vegas to play it out in the HyperX Esports Arena on May 30.

Players sit down to 40,000 starting stacks with blind levels at 60 minutes for the starting flights and Day 2, switching to 90 minutes for Day 3 and Day 4. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 9pm including unlimited re-entries and there is a 75-minute dinner break at 5:30pm.

The starting flights will come to an end after Level 10 and survivors will return on Sunday to continue their march towards a title.

Cards fly at 11am and we will have all the coverage from front to back.
