Day 1 action concluded when the final seven players reached the money, which happened in dramatic fashion. Leading the way into Day 2 is Jason Mercier with a massive lead, holding more than half of the chips in play and nearly five times as many chips as his nearest competitor.

On the second hand after play resumed, Jason Mercier raised to 40,000 from the cutoff. Dan Shak three-bet to 150,000 from the small blind and Mercier called.

The flop was As4h2c, Shak shoved for 740,000 and Mercier mulled it over for about 15 seconds before he called.

Shak: KcKs
Mercier: AhJh

Shak slammed the table when he saw the situation.

“Ace-jack?” asked Shak.

“Wanted to see the flop,” said Mercier.

The 9c turn and 7h river completed the board, no help to Shak, ending his tournament on the money bubble.

That pot gives Mercier more than half of the chips in play, as Shak was second in chips when play resumed. With that, Day 1 action has concluded.
