Hal Klein won his first Seminole Hard Rock trophy back in 2013 in a H.O.R.S.E. event, and on Friday night he added another one, winning Event 3 ($400 H.O.R.S.E.) in a heads-up deal against Stephen Reid to win $7,268.

After the elimination of last night’s Event 2 champion David Shmuel in third place, Klein held a 4.5-to-1 chip lead over Reid, and they quickly agreed to an ICM deal. As chipleader, Klein was awarded the trophy and the title.

Klein enjoys playing all games, so H.O.R.S.E. is a great fit for him. “I like mixing it up, and I try to be proficient in all games,” said Klein. “I’ve had a lot of seconds and thirds in H.O.R.S.E., and I haven’t won a H.O.R.S.E. tournament in a year or two, so it feels great.”

But in this event, one game in particular was the key to Klein’s victory.

“I like the stud-eight and Omaha-eight, but hold’em was my game today. I crushed hold’em, and that’s how I built my stack. At one table, I won all eight hands in a round of hold’em.” Klein pointed to runner-up Reid and added, “He was there. I even raised ten-three into his jacks and flopped two pair.”

Unfortunately, Klein is going to be out of town next weekend and won’t be able to play in the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open, but he’ll be back in the future.

“It’s a great venue, and I love playing here. It was a great structure for a one-day tournament.”

David Shmuel

Registration closed on the $400 H.O.R.S.E. tournament and it had a nice turnout. The tournament clock shows an unofficial 72 entries and tournament staff are crunching the numbers. We will post the prize pool and payouts as soon as they are available.

Two familiar faces are back in the non-Hold’em games. David Shmuel and Yuval Bronshtein went deep in yesterday’s Limit Omaha 8 game and chopped the tournament heads-up with Shmuel taking the title.

Event 3: Hop on your HORSE

$400 H.O.R.S.E. (Re-Entry)
Level 1: 100/200 Limits

Flight B of the WPTDeepStacks tournament is well underway but there’s another game in the Seminole Ballroom this afternoon for our mix game specialists.

Event 2 is a $400 H.O.R.S.E. tournament that will rotate every eight hands between Limit Hold’em, Limit Omaha 8, Razz, Seven-Card Stud, and Seven-Card Stud 8. The tournament will test the skill of our H.O.R.S.E. players and the winner will have to show proficiency in all five games.

Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 4:30 pm with unlimited re-entries available during that time. They will have a short 40-minute intermission at 6 pm for dinner and will return to play it out for the second trophy of the series.

  • Late registration/re-entry available until start of Level 9
