Andriy Kovalchuk
Andriy Kovalchuk

Andriy Kovalchuk raised to 9,000, his opponent moved all in for 75,000, and Kovalchuk called with JxJx.

His opponent turned over AxAx, and needed the aces to hold to stay alive.

The flop came Jx6x4x, giving Kovalchuk a big lead with a set of jacks.

But the turn card was an Ax, giving his opponent a higher set, and leaving Kovalchuk with a one-outer.

The river card was — the case Jx!

Kovalchuk won the pot with quad jacks to eliminate his opponent and catapult up to 280K.

That is good enough for the biggest $1,100 buy-in one-day tournament in our history and it wasn’t really close. The field nearly doubled the 288 entries from the 2019 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $1,100 Six-Max NLH and it’ll be a tough record to beat.

2021 LHPO (January) – 556 entries
2019 SHRPO (August) – 288 entries
2016 Showdown (April) – 261 entries
2017 Showdown (March) – 260 entries
2018 SHRPO (August) – 237 entries

Tournament staff are running the numbers and we will the payout information as soon as it is available.

Asher Conniff

The first break is complete and cards are back in the air for the massive Event 15 field. The $100,000 guaranteed prize pool is approaching $500,000 for an incredible turnout.

As you would expect, we’re seeing plenty of players coming to sunny South Florida from places where the climate might be a little on the chilly side. We found two from the New York/New Jersey area making their first showing of the series.

Asher Conniff and Michael Dentale made a trip south and both have a lot of success. Conniff won the last ever WPT World Championship in 2015 and Denalte is a former SHRPO trophy winner after capturing the $2,200 Eight-Handed event in 2018 along with a half-dozen Borgata wins.
